  • My band won the Santa Barbara surf competition!?

A little while back, maybe a month or so ago, someone emailed me a link for a surf band contest out in sunny CA, with the winner getting the opening slot for The Surfaris, the band that did "Wipe Out". (www.surfariswipeout.com) So, for the hell of it, I sent in our press kit and a one song CD.
Now, I've been playing surf for all of about 9 months, just for fun. My heart and soul is in Shredland.

Yesterday we get the news: Out of all the nation-wide surf band entries, we won!

Judges were members of The Surfaris, Beach Boys, and the deciding judge was none other than Mr. Dick Dale himself. Kinda made me feel good about my guitar playing.

It's quite the haul for us out to CA, seeing as we're in Maryland, which is as far East as you can go until you hit water. But we're gonna go anyway!

They're flying us out, putting us up and even supplying gear. So if anyone is looking for something to do Friday June 1st, put on a Hawaiian shirt and come out and say hi. I'll buy ya a beer!

Hello! On June 2 the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History will present a concert with The Surfaris! As part of this event, we have decided to have a contest for surf bands. The winning band will open the show on Friday, June 2. Music Inspired by the Environment The environment has been a powerful source of inspiration to musicians for hundreds of years. Music provides us with a mental picture of nature and at times creates environmental awareness and concern. Join us for this series, which will feature surf, cowboy, and Native American music. Native American songs many times celebrate the relationship between man and nature; cowboy ballads memorialized the Wild West, while surf music created a vision of surf, sand, and sun! Surfs Up: An Evening with The Surfaris Friday, June 2 7:30 PM The Surfaris will present an evening of surf music that will take you back to the West coast of the 1960’s. Formed in 1962,the Surfaris are best known for their hit song “Wipe Out” and the popular “Surfer Joe.” Members $10 adult / $5 child; non-members $15 adult /$7child Tickets: [email protected]r call 805-682-4711 ext. 170

I edited my post. Last time I checked Dick Dale has a club in Santa Cruz. I got so excited for those guys I skipped to the body and got to the text. Gee. I'm sorry.

I wouldn't come all the way to the West Coast unless Racer "will" go instead of "may" go.
