dd3keegs - yes, i have kids. would i be nervous about two random saudis riding the bus with my kids? hell yes. just like i'd be nervous as hell about ANY two grown men hopping on the school bus with my kids. what the fuck? why were they on the bus? i know i can't get on my kids' school bus. you guys are dwelling on them being arabs rather than the fact that two grown men got close to your children. the fact that they were arab should be particularly startling since people do single them out and they still got to ride to the school. what would have happened if it had been to nice white NAMBLA members?

ralph - no arabs are getting into my house without a "background" check either. just like i wouldn't let any of you greasy slimeball guitar players in my house either we had iranian neighbors in our old neighborhood. they were excellent neighbors and became good family friends. i can assure you that they were much better people than a good number of the white christians in our neighborhood. our children still miss their children. good people are welcome in my home anytime.

seriously, look around you when you go to the grocery store - you should be wary of EVERYONE. then go to your local sex offenders web site - they are way closer than you think - we have several within a mile or two of my house and we are in an afluent area in the suburbs and all of these convicted sex offenders are lily white and probably go to church every sunday. they are way more likely to target our children than some random saudis and they are way harder to pick out.

so where and when do you draw the line? just arabs? blacks? mexicans? pakistanis? indians? asians? jews? catholics?

In today's society, I would not take a chance specially around our kids and civilians. "Our" naiveness led to 20+ hijackers train on how to fly only (not land) planes and load up on four separate planes with box cutters and kill several thousand innocent civilians. Not to mention two tall buildings in NY and a chunk of another in DC.

You want to talk racism or profiling.... let's go I have stories for you. I am Puertorican I have been through the "process". I have thick skin and does not bother me. But several of my friends have had BAD experiences. At the end of the day I can point you to things both sides could have done to have the situation disappear.

Should we seal our borders? Hell yes. Even Mexico is EXTREMELY intolerant of Guatemalans and other Central Americans crossing into their country. I have not heard of anyone calling them racists.

This is the land of opportunity, I am a witness and example of that. You want to come here? by all means... this is a land of immigrants. But you have to do it legally and follow the the rules and guidelines of the land.

Should we profile? a though one, but unfortunately I do not see white Christian men rioting after the showing of The Davinci Coden like european Muslim men after those cartoons and I have not seen Mexican looking men crying Jihad and ramming a plane into a building.

One of the two gentle Saudi men was wearing a black trench coat. For some of you northeners, in Tampa the average day temp for the last week has been high 80s to mid 90s.

The two jackasses were smiling and smurking as the judge read their arraignment.

i have a guest worker program. it involves a theme park. there are only 2 rides.

1) a water slide. this is the ride you get on when we deport your ass the first time.

2) a human catapult. this is the ride you get on every subsequent capture.

this is all assuming of course that you were not shot when you illegaly entered the country to begin with.

Did you guys hear that Mexico is threatening to sue the US over the additional 6000 national guard that are scheduled to patrol the border?

I hear sh*t like that and get so f*n outraged, it drives me nuts. What kills me is there are actually people in the US that defend Mexico for even bringing up that option...

Not to mention that the Senate last week passed a bill (still has to go thru the House) that allows illegals using stolen social security numbers to collect social security!

Yep and I agree with you 100% Ralph .. more needs to be done about that and screw mexico for thinking we aren't allowed to secure our borders.. THis is a country that had a drug cartel recently behead some of their police and left officials a note that said you need to learn respect ..

Everyone wants something for free.. I'm a very conservative person but not at the risk of losing personal rights and freedoms because of the color of skin..

As far as profiling goes I've been judged myself...when I had long hair and wore a leather jacket (6ft2in and 280lbs) it seemed quite a few women were clutching their pocketbooks when I was near them. One time I went into an elevator, Leather jacket and earrings, and I end up going 10 floors with some scared lady with her hand in her pocketbook holding some mace the whole ride. I didn't even want to tell her to calm down, because I would have gotten a face full of pepperspray. Maybe we should close the borders and get a handle on who is here and who comes and goes. Israel does it. We have a lot to learn from them.

st. james - i've been singled out for long hair as well - whether it's stares (all the time), hassles from the cops, or not getting a job because of it. i hate it. sure, i'm used to it after 20 years. but i'd prefer people were tolerant of me. you say you hate being hassled for it yet you still think it's acceptable at some form or another. wow.

I didn't say I think long hair is acceptable. I just don't care anymore. And to be perfectly honest I don't expect anything less from the people in this country.

Just look at the things that are acceptable and the things people will pitch a bitch over... Such as these Arabs jumping on a school bus. Here's another observation... I have read a few of the posts in this thread and of the ones I've read I've noticed opinions vary mainly between those of us in different parts of the country, such as the north and south. Seems the North speaks of more tolerance, while the South is saying close the borders, ect...

I have never been up north, but I do know that certain parts of it has it's share of the different races and from what I understand there's also parts that's virtually free of it.

So I'm very curious if our Northern pals that live in these areas simply do not understand the problem goes well beyond intolerance of difference, hatred or any of the other words used to describe the situation...

Perhaps they don't understand because they don't see first hand the problems we have throughout the South?

No seat belt law
No major gun law.. IE can buy a pistol without a license only need a permit to conceal ..easy to get with a background check .

Generally this state tells the feds to go to hell .. people tend to take the consitution literally up here. This does't mean that there's a north south divide.. My neighbors may have a different opinion than I would regarding this issue..

I'm not saying that protecting the public is wrong by any means. But our rights are set up in such a manner that stereotyping people can be construed as racial bias based soley on religion or skin color..

Was anyone able to racially profile the oklahoma city bombers? How bout the UniBomber (that was a terrorist act) ..Both of these people were inherently white....racial profiling wouldn't work ..

And for the record.. I expect Illegal Immigrants to become legal the proper way .. I am for increasing border protection but not at the cost of our rights ..

st. james - i grew up in VA and currently live in NC with 7+ years in seattle in between. i've spent extended periods of time on travel all over the US (and a number of countries).

believe me, intolerance is alive and kicking everywhere. it is not unique to the south.

the one difference i observed over the years though is that in the south people are far more forthcoming about their intolerances. elsewhere they just exercise more discretion in public - this just leaves me more uneasy because you just don't know where you stand with those fuckers.
