  • New Guitar Centers Coming to Texas

I found out the other day that the owner of Hermes Music which owns four stores in Texas sold to Guitar Center to consentrate on his charity work. I believe he only sold his Texas stores. I am not sure what is happening with his stores in Mexico. The four locations are Laredo, San Antonio, Brownsville, and McAllen. Mcallen being my local store. Not sure if a Guitar Center will be an upgrade from our exsisting service at Hermes. Service was never their specialty and my few experinces at Guitar Centers were about the same.
    Here are a couple articles:

Service?... like repairs. Virtually non-existent and shitty on the GCs I know.

Service?... like product knowledge. Virtually non-existent on the GCs I know. I am not knocking GC here and wish this doesn't become a slug fest. But damn!! I have been there so many times and I have heard so much junk coming out of his pie hole it is quite pathetic.
This IS what he does, I understand they don't pay much there but nobody pays me to play guitar (anymore). Guitar playing is my passion and I tend to gather as much as I can in my brain.

I use GC for strings, tuners and check out FX and whatever shitty amps they have. The few by me only stock Fender, Marshall, Crate and Line 6. Woohoo!

You will enjoy their "discounted" $2900 price tag on a standard Charvel, single Hum pointy in black and the Dood tell you it is CS (not!) and "totally" worth the $2900 chickens.

BTW, the first time you buy something there your name will be in their database. After that you will be getting useless postcards for THE sale of the century. Utter BS!! and they happen so often they better come up with a better hook, like the sale of the Ass or the sale of the Galaxy.
Mr. Patience.... ask for a free consultation.

In some ways GC is just like all the other mega stores. Circuit City, WalMart, Best Buy, Target, Home Depot, whatever.

The one difference I see is that there are at least *some* folks with a good deal of knowledge at GC - those are the guys that have a career working music retail. They were there 5 years ago and will be there 5 years from now. Other than the managers, I do not see that same folks at Home Depot from month to month - their turnover makes the dumb punks at GC seem like old-timers.

I regularly deal with 3 excellent dudes at the Raleigh GC - one in guitars, one in drums, and one in pro sound/keyboards. Those guys hook me up with great deals on a regular basis, let me know when the *real* sale deals are coming, and generally know their stuff. Two are assistant managers. All three are accomplished musicians and a pleasure to deal with.

I see guys walk into GC all the time with a chip on their shoulder. You can tell they think that they are stooping to come into GC and that GC should be grateful they've graced them with their arrival. They come in and play loud and shitty. They are disrespectful with the gear. They sit there and talk smack and cuss like little punks - perhaps they should consider that maybe that grandma over there or my kids don't need to hear their crap.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.
