I work for American Century Investments.

Another I/T geek here. I just left the JAVA app/dev world to take a more enterprise wide role with our distributed web enviroment. Work is cool, always changing but I get a few phone calls here and there at all hours

I have the entrie month of July off paid. After 7 years ( then every 5 ) my company gives you a 30 day sabbitical.

I could make more money by changing jobs but I have a very flexiable work sked and lots of vaction time.

I'd say stay away from IT - local shops around me outsource to India, making the job market here tough.
Been there done that.... And I may be going back (IT). I have been out of work for a year after spending 20 plus years at one company well kinda. Been sold off a few times. But the last 6 months or so of my job was teaching a few people in India how to do my job.... yeah right...
I love coding, and had fun doing it for a while but coordinating stuff overseas... what a headache.
Now I just make bodies and play dad but after a year the bills are catching up....

I work (currantly) for a large, high volume Chevrolet dealer as a body shop estimator / service writer. Pays ok (I have made more). Work is steady.
I piss people off all the time cause I won't cut corners. I don't write low ball estimates. It takes what it takes to repair the vehicle. I will do it as cheep as I can but I won't Lie, Cheat or Steal.

I currently work for myself....."West Signs Ltd." I do signs, laser engraving, and TR covers & mirror tops for the Jackson Custom Shop... been doing them for 1 1/2 years now, and I'm still stoked about it. To top it off, two days ago I picked up my vert. milling machine (finally). I'm in debt up to my ears, but I'm happy.

You just can't beat the flexability of self employment.... I love it.

Retired Navy, currently a civilian Navy Instructor. Love my job, now that I'm out of active duty. Get to grow my hair, plug an earring in, and most of all, I get to go home on time at night.

I still get to play sailor too. Next week I'll be teaching a bunch of squids, out somewhere in the middle of the Pacific.

I run two fairly large prostitution rings, and do a little drug trafficking on the side. The money is great but the hours are hell. I may go back to McDonalds just for the benefits and a set schedule. Or maybe I'll just run for President. I just dunno sometimes.

                        PIMPZILLA!

I was just notified today that were going to lay off three more people in my dept. We had a company meeting today.. basically, we're in the ongoing process of restructuring. I've already lost my Sun Mon Tues shift..as they combined the night shifts and are now downsizing those to the same size shift I had before. So.. at least I didn't get demoted like the other supervisor..but now I am back on nights 5 days a week plus on a rotation for Saturday...I guess gigging is on the back burner again.

I work for a digital media company. I get paid to listen to radio commercials. I check them for quality before they get sent to the stations. I also get to listen to new music releases before the radio stations get them. Pay is good, enviroment is awesome, I get to wear jeans and t-shirts. Plus I am in a sound proof room so I bring my guitar and a little amp in and practice on slow days.

Have you ever thought of a job in Corrections? No, seriously.

I got out of the Marines in 1986 and took the exam for the NJ Department of Corrections in 1987. I passed the test, but also passed on the job. I drove tractor trailers for 12 or 13 years, worked as a forklift mechanic for another few years and then took the Law Enforcement Entry Exam. I landed a job, where? NJDOC.

I have been a Correction Officer for 4+ years now. Pay and benefits are good. The nice thing is, is that in NJ we are classified as law enforcement officers, not just guards. We can carry off duty, have full arrest powers, etc.

The job isn't for everyone, but you may enjoy it. My only regret, is not taking the job in 1987. If I did, I'd be retiring in 6 years at 48 years old.
