Tha helmet/anti helmet, seat belt/anti seatbelt arguments are as tiresome as gun/ anti gun argument.

Not a shot at you Spacey, honestly. Both sides have their believers, and both sides make valid points. Everyone will never be happy about any of it.

Were I a 2-wheeler, I'd wear a helmet just because I know driver's licenses are handed out like blowjobs these days.

I'm an excellent driver - been in 2 accidents in my 20 years of driving and both times it was the result of a complete moron; one guy late for work slid on the icy road coming around a corner at a red light and slid into me, and the other one when a guy whipped around a blind corner into the one-lane-wide tunnel I was already in. I cut 'em to the right to take the wall but because of the rainy and muddy road all I did was slide forward with the wheels turned fully rightwards.

So yeah, I wear a seatbelt and I'd wear a helmet until they start giving IQ tests and doing psychiatric profiles on applicants, and reject 98% of the people who apply for them.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

What's ironic with Ben's case is I wouldn't think wearing a helmet would be that big of an issue with him since he wears one at work.

Someone with a learners permit shouldnt be on a busa to begin with. Some states also require those w/a permit to wear a helmet. Anyways, hes a dumbass....

Yeah no argument here,a License would have been nice Also I agree he is in a situation the average person (such as myself) is not.If his contract says he should not be participating in these types of activities then he should honor that. And no offence taken at all Stuka you are probably right it would be difficult to sway either side.

I think the stats show most MC fatals were not licensed.

Its actually about 50/50. Alcohol, on the other hand, is a factor in over 70% of all fatals.

I don't think it should be law stating you have to wear a seatbelt or a helmet when riding motorcycles, but I think you'd be stupid not to. Just my opinion.

I'm looking at buying full leathers for my bike. People may tease you, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, or find myself sliding across the pavement wishing I had them on. Dress for the crash, not the ride.

Ben should know better, especially since he can be looked at as a role model.

Just found out the bike he was on was a 2005 Hayabusa, which he got for free. This article goes into the background and also features a map of the accident scene:

Why can't people learn to ride before they go out on a 1000+ cc monster?

I've only been on a motorcycle once or twice, but I'd really like to try a sport bike, probably something like an R6 or other 600 as I want to do some semi-serious riding on the track, but I'm not an idiot.

I've been into racing or just riding fast for years with snowmobiles, jetskis, and just about everything with 4 wheels and an engine including national championships in karting (I'm talking 100+ mph, not the karts at your local amusement park). I think I'd do OK on one of those bikes if I just took one out on the street, but I would feel like an asshole.

I plan to go to some actual tracks and spend as much time as it takes to be comfortable before I buy a bike (meaning get reasonably close to good lap times, so probably several practice days). Then I want to take that bike to the track and be comfortable with that specific one before I take anything out on public roads.

You guys with more bike experience, am I crazy?
