I have a very good posibility of consulting back at my current job when I quit (they will be hurt hard from my leaving). Before working at my current job, I consulted for 6 years and loved every minute of it. But back then, everyone was getting onto JD Edwards. Now, everyone seems to be getting off of JDE and onto something else (SAP, Oracle, the Microsoft ERP package...). My expertise is with a package no longer in demand.

I hoped to learn One World (It's JDE, but client/server based) at my current job, but that never happened because 1. One World sucks (cost more to run, flakier), and 2. Business sucks (no money to upgrade the ERP system).

At this new job in Cleveland, I'll finally be able to do Java (took the classes, but no on the job experience). I need to transition my skill set to what is in demand before I can consult again.

All kidding aside. Do what you think will make you happy. I used to work with a guy that lived more than 2 hours away, each way. He would stay around near the job. Granted, he got to stay with his mother.:ROTF: Why not check out if there is one of people at the new place that would rent you a room? You could tune your schedule. "YOU ARE HERE". The money is "THERE" and it seems like it's the type of job you want and they want you. The knock you would take in income and the IT, not what it used to be, where you are now is telling you the opportunity is "THERE".
I am a true ass set to this board.

The housing would be paid for by corporate, as well as milage (.445 per mile). For a 500 mile round trip, it'll be pretty sweet (two guitars per trip, huh? LOL!)

My ex-boss knows how good I am, and he can pull the strings to take care of me. That's the treatment I won't get going to a new place taking a 30% pay cut. I'd have to prove myself all over (not a problem), but after I prove my worth, they aren't going to give me a 30% pay increase - once you are hired in cheap, you stay cheap unless you can jump higher. But I'm already at the top, no where to go but down.

        I guess it's a done deal.

Also, if I decide to moved up to Cleveland, they'd take care of me, but I just built/bought my current house in September, and we spared no expense on upgrades.

I'd move there just to hang out with Officer McNightstick Billy, and his lunatic partner in crime Johnny Boy if I didn't already live in heaven.
Not helping the situation since 1965!
