I have a very good posibility of consulting back at my current job when I quit (they will be hurt hard from my leaving). Before working at my current job, I consulted for 6 years and loved every minute of it. But back then, everyone was getting onto JD Edwards. Now, everyone seems to be getting off of JDE and onto something else (SAP, Oracle, the Microsoft ERP package...). My expertise is with a package no longer in demand.
I hoped to learn One World (It's JDE, but client/server based) at my current job, but that never happened because 1. One World sucks (cost more to run, flakier), and 2. Business sucks (no money to upgrade the ERP system).
At this new job in Cleveland, I'll finally be able to do Java (took the classes, but no on the job experience). I need to transition my skill set to what is in demand before I can consult again.
