  • Workout Tunes

After waaaay too long a time off I finally started lifting again but I'm in a bit of a rut with my workout music. Lots of it is the same stuff I've listened to for years in the gym. I tend to like straight-up driving rock/metal (no super fast thrash, no cookie monster vocals, no songs with six dozen chords and forty-three key and time signature changes, etc.). Here's the contents of my current MD, anyone care to expand on my it with some similar stuff or list a few of your favorite workout tunes? Suggestions much appreciated!

AC/DC – Hard as a Rock, Big Guns, Flick of the Switch, Highway to Hell, C.O.D., Evil Walks, If You Want Blood You Got It
Black Sabbath – Neon Knights, NIB, The Mob Rules, Time Machine
Kid Rock – Cocky, American Badass
Guns ‘n Roses – Welcome to the Jungle, Right Next Door to Hell
Deff Leppard – Rock Rock ‘til You Drop
    W.A.S.P. – I Wanna Be Somebody
Nine Inch Nail – Closer, Head Like a Hole
Buckcherry – Underneath, Ridin’, Lit Up
    Devin Townshend – Sinner
Slayer – Expendable Youth, Skeletons of Society
Motorhead – Ace of Spades, Deaf Forever, Smiling Like a Killer
Rage Against the Machine – Killing in the Name of, Bombtrack
Tony Iommi – Flame On, Goodbye Lament
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult – After the Flesh
Jason McMaster – King Contrary Man
Corrosion of Conformity – Vote with a Bullet

Y'know Bill I actually believe that. I often find myself flipping through and stopping on the AC/DC tunes more often than the others or bringing the AC/DC MD rather than this one. There really isn't a much better straight-up energetic driving rock sound than AC/DC.

Waaay back in jr. high our gym teacher used to fire up the boom box when he made us run sprints. That was actually one of the songs he played. After that I really shouldn't complain about any workout music that I actually get to choose myself.

I've been in a huge power metal phase lately. And I find I can get some great workouts in while listening to super fast Euro shred metal. After all, what makes you want to be bigger, faster and stronger than listening to songs about slaying a dragon?

i listen to a lot of edguy when i am working out, especially doing cardio. i put all their cds into my mp3 player and i play it on random. the speed REALLY helps keep me going, then when they hit a ballad, it'll allow me to vary my pace. when i lift, i tend to listen to more gothy stuff that is mid tempo. i have been listening to a lot of HIM for that. i will also listen to iron maiden during a well rounded workout.
                          GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

                          and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

That's when you raise your hate rate for a lengthened period of time, like after a set of 20 rep sqauts.
