  • The RongFu has landed (in my basement)

OK...Been talking about pulling the trigger on a milling machine for over a year now. Two weeks ago I did it...finally. I found a killer deal at Harbor Freight on an RF-31. They have "20% off any single purchase" coupons available from time to time. So I waited till I got my hands on one.

Crate weight was 706lbs (mill weight is 660lbs). We trailered it to my garage. The last two weeks I've been racking my brain on how to safely get it in my basement. I live in a tri-level house. It had to go up 4 steps thru the front door, then down 7 steps to the fam. room, then down 6 steps to the basement (where it will stay for eternity!). I had to remove some rails & a door, and re-enforce the steps.

I had 5 buddies lined up to tackle it, but the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea of 6 novice movers trying to squash a toe. I ended up calling a piano mover. They sent out 3 guys. Much to my surprise, they safely moved it in with only a refrig. dolly, and 2 straps. They even set it on the stand for me.

As soon as I get my power feed and DRO, I'll be in business. Can't wait to start making chips!

I have a few issues to work out before any metal production can begin. The stand isn't welded properly, so it looks like I have to make my own stand, and return the one I bought. The biggest problem is figuring out how to move it, then move it back to the new stand.

I have an old neck I can cut up. All I need is a couple ball nose end mills, and I'll be ready to scallop.

Very cool. I'm glad it went in without any issues. Can't wait to see some new cool stuff you turn out with it!

                  humm,
2-4x4's on each side of the mill. ( have the wood a tad taller than the stand.)
Have someone help you tilt the mill forward and slide 1/4 metal angle plate or wood under the rear and rest mill on that.
Tilt mill back, and slide another plate under the front.
You should be able to slide the stand out the front.
Fix it and slide it back in.
I hope you get it fixed.
Or have a house party and while everyone is there looking at your mill...
