OK...Been talking about pulling the trigger on a milling machine for over a year now. Two weeks ago I did it...finally. I found a killer deal at Harbor Freight on an RF-31. They have "20% off any single purchase" coupons available from time to time. So I waited till I got my hands on one.
Crate weight was 706lbs (mill weight is 660lbs). We trailered it to my garage. The last two weeks I've been racking my brain on how to safely get it in my basement. I live in a tri-level house. It had to go up 4 steps thru the front door, then down 7 steps to the fam. room, then down 6 steps to the basement (where it will stay for eternity!). I had to remove some rails & a door, and re-enforce the steps.
I had 5 buddies lined up to tackle it, but the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea of 6 novice movers trying to squash a toe. I ended up calling a piano mover. They sent out 3 guys. Much to my surprise, they safely moved it in with only a refrig. dolly, and 2 straps. They even set it on the stand for me.
As soon as I get my power feed and DRO, I'll be in business. Can't wait to start making chips!
