  • Anyone have a Sony PSP?

I picked up one for some magic cards yesterday (in case there are any magic players, the cards I traded were a foil stoming ground, a foil temple garden, a foil Sacred Foundy, a foil yavimaya coast, a foil battlefield forge, a foil brushland and lastly, a foil burning tree shaman).

    In return, I received

    PSP
    headphones
    2 32 mb cards
    GTA
    Luminies
Namco Collection, and one other game that I don't know the name of
    strap
    case
    cloth

I've been using someone else's wireless router to surf the net (it shows me 2 available connections, one is mine, and one is someone else's. Even though I could just go upstairs for the net connection, it's so much fun fucking off on this thing).

My only complaint is, that i"ve got the 2.7 firmware, so I can't backdate to run emulations and shit on it.

I have one.. Fun little machine to screw around on... A buddy of mine bought a 1 gig memory card for it and started encoding episodes of TV shows for it and watching them when he was waiting for his wife to arrive at the park and ride.

Check out the available demos online since you're up to a fairly new firmware.

I also recommend getting some "armor" for the PSP itself, and also maybe some screen covers since the screen can scratch easily.

Yeah dude, I've got this video conversion software that I can make any video okay for my PSP. It's the shit, now I just need large memory cards. I'm also thinking about getting those external speakers.

From what I know the firmware versions 1.50 & 1.51 are able to run emulations and homebrew games. There are downgraders on ebay. You can check them

I used to play magic years ago and every time I see people talking about magic cards I feel like starting again...

I've had one since christmas and I've played it a ton. unfortunately, alot of the games that have been coming out in the last month have fallen way below my expectations, and the future release list looks laughable.

I've decided that I will have much more fun playing the new Super Mario, the upcoming Zelda, Castlevania and the previously released Castlevania on the DS, so I'm selling my PSP on ebay soon.

All I've been using it for lately is porn anyway

Coupla guys at work have one. One guy asked the other one why it was (or wasn't) doing something, and the other guy said it needed to be updated by plugging it into the wall.

He came back the next day and said it worked.

I knew he didn't have internet service, so I asked him how he did it. He said he just plugged it into the wall socket and it updated.

Sony has figured out how to get internet access through electrical outlets and yet people still have to pay for cable/phone lines?

The updates come on the game discs, so in order to play the newer games that you buy you are forced to update the firmware. In order to update you must have a fully charged battery and the PSP must be plugged into the wall.

To answer the original post, I've had my PSP since around launch. There have not been a huge amount of great games, but there have been enough to get by. What I'm waiting for is for good RPGs to come out, which should happen within the next couple of months.

I find the PSP is a great diversion when taking a crap, for either game playing or some web-browsing. The battery life is not very good, I average somewhere around 4-5 hours or so of on and off gaming, so it won't make it through a long flight. If you ever want to download movies on it, a larger memory card is a must. You get slightly better battery life when watching movies off of the memory stick because the drive is not spinning.

Overall its a nice little system, but there are no games on it that are "must play." Completely different from my Nintendo DS.

                  Another thing I just forgot...

Deneb, I have an extra screen protector... if you PM your addy I'll send it to you (I've never used it so I don't know how good it is as the one I initially put on is from a different company).

I usually leave it in standby mode, so its ready to go fairly quick. Once the battery dies I'll just throw a new one in...

On a side note, the in-game loading times can really suck, sometimes more than a minute waiting for the levels to load on some games.

Don't these also have the capability to pick up WiFi?

Yeah, you can connect to wireless networks with these (hence the bathroom usage )

How does the downgrading process work? I'd love to get a NES/SNES/MAME emulator on mine.
