How can you compare ZZ Top to the likes of those guys from Muscle Shoals? I did not see the program, but the dueling guitars of that sound is what makes it. ZZ Top is great but it's not the same thing. It's like comparing peaches to cacti.
Billy Gibbons could/can hold his own with any player in skynyrd. I don't think it's just the "dueling guitars" that makes it ... it's the mood and vibe that makes it great.
Guitars... Rhoads RX10D Amp... Pioneer Effects... Boss ME-20
I knew coming in that Skynyrd would be the top choice and I agree they're great, but I can't believe nobody's mentioned Blackfoot!?! One of my favorites. Molly Hatchet always had the coolest album covers.....

Ricky Medlocke from Blackfoot has been playing in Skynyrd for the past couple of years. I will be checking them out frontrow at the local Indian Casino next month.
The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet in that order. ZZ Top aren't Southern rock, they are Texas blues rock, a different thing. The Black Crowes are closer to the Rolling Stones than to southern rock per se, even though they really rock and they're from the South.
Saw the Allman Brothers last month at Citystages in Birmingham and they are still great! Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks play the guitars now, Derek is an amazing fingerstyle slide guitarist! He did a few things I haven't seen before, and only 27!
that's what thought too. however they have a show called crossroads that is pretty good. kinda like storytellers Heart, Jerry Cantrell, ZZ Top, Skynryd, Bon Jovi, and Brett Michaels have been on it. Decent show.

Ya, I have seen a couple of them. I think CMT should stick to country and leave everything else up to VH1. I think the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame needs to be just that, Rock & Roll. Not Aretha Franklin.
