I had the ones on my left side done back in the early 80's. I was on board the USS Saipan, and a Navy dentist brutally removed them. He said that, looking at the x-ray in my chart, he thinks they should come out. They weren't bothering me at the time though.

Novacain was all he used. One of the teeth popped right out. The other one, he cut open the gum and used a saw on. He yanked and cut forever until he got it all out.

Recovery took a while. The whole left side of my face was black and blue and green like I had taken a serious beating from someone.

I still have the ones in the right side of my mouth, thank you.

first off, if you go to a walk-in centre, you're fobbed off as much as possible. then they ask if you pay for your treatment. fucking cockroaches. if you have the money, then you get the "treatment". actually, it's the injections that fucking kill the most. 4 of them (oh, did i mention this is just for ONE tooth?), evenly timed so that you shudder vigorously similar to someone who just had their limbs bitten off. only THEN comes the yanking, pushing, twisting and crunching. a splittinmg headache, dizziness, you're then told "that'll be £17 please". of course you can't tell them to fuck off cuz you might have to back one day, and your lips and chin now feel they've been stuffed inside a rubber glove.

I had mine removed earlier this year. He put some injection in my mouth and proceded to take 'em out. It wasn't really a problem. What may happen tought is since he is going to take the down ones, he will have to touch the lower maxilary (sp?) bone of your mouth and its a normal defense reaction that will make your mouth grow bigger.

I recovered in a week. The first day after was the most painfull one.

Some of you peeps seem to have VERY VERY bad dentists. If you scream then you should look elsewhere. My dentist always care that I don't feel any pain and has been a master in everything he has done so far hence why I'm going to go in Dentistry next year.

I had 4 of mine out about within the past 10 years.. less than that actually. So I was about mid 30's. They take the X-rays beforehand so you have an idea if they are impacted or not. If they are.. I highly recommended getting knocked out completely. My insurance didn't cover the 110 bucks for that so I chose the cheaper N02 and novocaine. Needless to say.. I wish I had gone under.

There's a main nerve in your jaw, they may explain it to you.. you don't want to mess with that.
The novocaine injections were not pleasant, you'll have a tear in your eye...if you do not like needles..better go under. The procedure itself is like taking a tooth puller to ya. Think of a rusty part that requires a pry bar to break it free. There's pulling and yanking till you look like the scene in Little Shop of Horrors where Steve Martin has Bill Murray in the chair and is yanking his mouth every which way.

Ok.. but the worse part was the drill, two of my teeth were so impacted I had to have them drilled to break them apart. The root of the teeth were deep and they were curved/knarled around the bone..in there. Course, then you have the blood, you are fully conscious, you hear the crunching, the cracking while getting our face stretched all ways. The full sound effects just like it was inside your jaw..like wearing headphones will block that out.. and you wish it over.. soon, many times.

Anytime I felt close to pain..due to that nerve.. I would raise my hand.
He would increase the gas or administer a few more novocaine shots and let them take, then ask if you are ready.
Even the Dentist had remarked "tough guy huh" for enduring the abuse, but was a very good dentist and on the whole.. the pain was bearable that it wasn't scarring me from dentists for life.. He saved a couple teeth to use them for examples at lectures at the UofM.

A drummer I used to play in a band with now is a dentist.. quite well off too.
I hope he is a better dentist than he was drummer...from what I am told.. he is.

I havnt had mine out, but i wish I did. Every other month they flare up and cause me problems.

Mine started coming through when i was 21, i remember them hurting as they came through and the skin would often get infected...I have all four of mine but i don't really use them for eating, in fact they serve no purpose at all to me.

I had three widsom teeth out during college - the fourth one never formed. I had an IV anaesthesia drip. That IV worked wonders, though I don't remember coming out from under it. The dentist said I knew his name when I came out from under it but to this day, I couldn't tell you his name.

The evening after the surgery, I had tickets to Aerosmith and Ted Nugent. I went to the show and was fine, though I made sure no one got a hand or arm near my face. The only problem I had was a few days later when I developed a dry socket. But some prescription-strength painkillers did the job and I have fond memories of watching "Gremlins" while under the influence.

What's even better is when the dentist doesn't clean out the inscision completely, and about a month later tooth and bone fragments start coming to the surface

I took note of the time, got knocked out and had all four removed at one time. Didn't feel a thing, even after, but just had some new holes that healed pretty quickly. It took 40 minutes total. I even asked the Dental Surgeon if he could save me one, well I woke up with a gauze pad with all four teeth intact inside. I still have them today !!! I hope your experience is as good or was for that matter by this time.
