I thought the song was OK - compared to shit like Dance of Death (the song) it's fantastic! Cool to see some glimpses of old still shots of Adrian with his Jackson double neck in the video as well.....

Dissapointingly average. I was hoping they would move away from their new formula of just using a clean guitar over a plodding bass line like they did all the way through dance of death and some of brave new world. Starting to get a bit dull. I want a maiden song to open with a soaring guitar harmony! If you wake up in the morning, it's because Jack Bauer spared your life.

Originally posted by Number Of The PriestHell, you'd think that me, being an IMMENSE fan of the "Somewhere In Time" album, would LOVE a song like this with so many elements from that album's songs. But nope.
For some strange reason, I've always dreamed of Maiden re-recording their classic tracks in a studio setting and having them SUPER-POLISHED and modernized. A lot of people would feel that they're being ripped off, but damn, I'd pay a hundred dollars for an album like this. I love modern versions of old songs... listen to "Charlotte The Harlot '88" and "Prowler '88" for two studio re-recordings from classic Maiden. For live versions, watch the Live In Ullevi (Sweden) video of their "Early Days" tour from last year. They kicked serious ass playing all their old songs.
Another example. Ever heard Halford's "Live Insurrection"? I am a huge fan of Judas Priest but damn, the modernized Halford band plays Priest songs better than Priest themselves. I can't describe it; that album had a magical sound. But Priest can definitely hold their own and their new DVD ("Rising In The East") is pretty amazing.
Old bands capitalizing on playing their old songs in a modern setting = my soaking wet mangina, no matter how much of a ripoff it may be to other fans.

Meh. In 7 minutes I expect more than three or four riffs and a 2-bar solo, but that's just me. I will say that the production sounded good, the drum sound was great, and Bruce definitely still has his voice, but I'm let down by the song.
I dunno, I guess I was hoping they would come out of the gate with something killer. There are so many bands right now trying to do the maiden epic 2-guitar metal band thing right now, and I was really looking forward to seeing them all get schooled hard by the originals. Oh well.

I guess they've released 2 up-tempo songs for the first single from the last 2 CDs so maybe they're deliberately trying something different. I wish they'd drop the plodding mid-temp songs though: Mother Russia (from No Prayer) was not a good basis for any further songs in my opinionPopular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get
