"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.
I was on Paxal for a year to get my shit together after my Father died..... I'm with Mr. Bill about Mr. Happy being sad... Same here....... I've been off the dope for about 8 months now...... I feel better mentally now....
Best of luck to ya Zeegs!!!!! Hang in there Bro!!!
Zeegs..it takes a while to starting Fuggin' with Mr Peabody..
if it does..DON"T worry..it's just the meds..it bounces right back when you stop taking the paxil..literally..
if it doesn't...well cool..
With Paxil, whatever the doctor tells you..DO NOT..I repeat DO NOT go off that medication "cold turkey"..you must ween your self off gradually..
Guess how I know that...I cried for three days like a little bitch with a skinned knee..:ROTF:
stupid doctor.."Oh , just quit Bill"...stupid asshole!!

Unless your bipolar, I would stay FAR away from stuff like that. I get in ruts too... everyone does. But when you pull yourself out and realize that you did it yourself, I think it helps you more than any medicine could. Good luck with it, if you REALLY think you need them, then give them about two weeks. If not, throw 'em in the trash!
+1
I never took any pills, but a doctor tried to put me on some happy pills... I decided to try and get my shit together by myself. Of course, there might be people alot more depressed than I was at the time... and that the pills really do wonders for! But in my case, it helped getting regular excercise, daylight, etc... Natural stuff! And I was pretty f'n down at the time... Now everything's pretty good actually! And yeah, beer always helps! And MUSIC!!!! Listening to it and playing is the best therapy ever!!!!
The bad thing about quiting the pills is that they work in a cumulative way. Meaning they have to build up in your system to start working. Even if you step down slowly you will have some withdrawl symptoms. I stepped down and had the brain shivers for about 2 weeks. The consolation prize was being able to hit one over the fence which somewhat made up for feeling so funky.
Zeegs, I take Paxil 40mg daily. When I first started on it I had a little trouble sportin' a woody, but I adjusted.
Bear in mind it takes a few weeks to even start to work on your anxiety, so don't stop too soon. Biofeedback is real but it doesn't always work, or isn't always enough. People who don't have the chemical imbalance don't realize it isn't like normal mood swings. Now if it doesn't work for you, get something else. I was off meds for awhile when I first became unemployed, and when I had my stroke and got back into the system they put me on Zoloft for depression, even though I told them I'd had good results with Paxil before. I had to take the Zoloft for 6 months before they bought that it wasn't helping and gave me Paxil again. Different things work for different people. So find the solution that works for YOU, my friend.

That is perfect advice Rich I was on the AD merry go round for over 5 years....tweaking with dosage and different meds..I'm off ALL ADs now..just xannax..that seems to be the key for me..but that med is very hard to obtain without a psyche evaluation..unless you go mail order, it's pricey..
I get mine free, so I can't complain..My Major Depression is an allowed condition to my claim..which is amazing in itself...but my medical documentation is pretty cut and dry.

Hey guys, I really appreciate the advice. So far the meds don't seem to be doing much, but I guess it's a waiting game. The only side effect I've had so far, is that in the afternoons, I get a thick feeling in my throat which makes swallowing a little difficult. I also have yawning spells. I yawn every couple of minutes for about half an hour. Weird eh?
I hate this topic, almost everyone in my family has dealt with this. Our medication counter WAS a pharmacy in our house. The worst part was when thigns got suicidal.
I agree with what Anders said, as well, try to keep things as simple as possible. Take things down to a basic level and find the simple pleasures of life, and find those "happy places" that get your mind off things. Anyone who has dealt with these things, KNOWS its a chemical imbalance, so come to terms with that, and do thigns your way in your way to recovery.
On a bright note, my brother went from being completely suicidal, to a well paid functional person in society making good money and he still has spells, but found things like photography and music to keep him sane.
My biggest recommend though is to simplify your life as much as possible, and to find pleasure in the small things. Once healthy again, then you can take on the world again.
Zeegs, I'm waiting for ya. You step foot in my neighborhood and you're happy as hell. I'm floating on a cloud of titties as I speak right now. An ex-girlfriend took Paxil and then switched to Zoloft and whenever she ran out it was panic time like never before, so try not to get strung on 'em. You don't need them anyway, I know you don't.
It's a slippery slope when you take the first ride at Pharma-Land to alter your perspective. I see the Cart before the Horse. Is Big Pharma making the drugs first and then having Docs diagnose a problem that will sell the drug? Every one of us has problems or had problems that seemed overwhelming. I know, I have had mine. And, I am sure I still do. I'm not talking New-Age stuff or anything like that. I just feel you have to deal with whatever comes your way and try to rise above it without Pharma. Now, lots of beer is another issue.
