I have the same problem with these bands. I'm listening to Arch Emeny right now and when "she" isn't, ahhhhhhhhh I'm lost for the right word because it certainly isn't singing, growling? the music behind is totally kick ass, but as soon as she opens her mouth I want to turn it off.

It'll take root, if ya listen to it..I think..This always seems to be the case..
Now all my wife does is listens to is Arch Enemy..she used to HATE with a passion up 'till about two months ago..nows she's addicted to them..big time
Angela's Vocals are not much different than classic Carcass..it just a girl doing it..that's all..she does a good job..Arch Enemy is jusy a more melodic and modern version of Carcass really, especially "Heartwork"..
Liva didn't have that Carcass vibe ...he sang from the belly not from the throat..besides Mike Amott wasn't banging Liva..
The thing I notice is this..when you get used to this style of vocals..suddenly alot of clean vocals don't have that punch or impact..not aggressive enough..like Hammerfall and Dragonforce..now my wife HATES that kinda stuff..she thinks anything clean now sounds like the 80's..which is not the case..
Agressive music needs agressive vocals..
I wished Dragonforce had more aggressive vocals..it's TOO clean and "pretty"..like Donny Osmond singing for a metal band..that's why I was always put off by Europe..just to "pretty"..they have nice voices..but so does boy bands..:ROTF:
I'm not saying you must have death vox ..just attitude..like Jorne, Dio, Dickinson, Mats Levin, Russel Allen, Halford, or even Chuck Billy and Jon Oliva for examples....you know "POWER!!!!"
Metal ain't supposed to be pretty!!Last edited by horns666; 07-26-2006, 04:01 PM."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

I go back and forth on Dragonforce's vocalist. At first listen I laughed. After listening to the latest CD a ton of times, I think it fits the music. He's not one dimensional but his yodels do have an 80's vibe (my wife thinks so too). My 4 year old son loves when I put on "papa music" in the car (i.e. Ripper Owens, Soilwork, anything with screaming, basically). I put on some Maiden and he said they didn't scream enough. Same thing with Anthrax. He loves fast songs. He likes Dragonforce and even sings along with them. And Helloween too. I think Dragonforce's vocals are a welcome change from guttural screams. I just think too many bands do the agressive vocals without anything special. Tom Araya souns like Tom Araya. Dimmu Borgir's vocalist sounds like himself (what's his name anyway? Snørdvarkvs?).
Speaking of Russel Allen, I gave him a ride home from Forbidden's final show. He was real sweaty. I have a Venom tribue with Forbidden covering Rip Ride. Cool stuff, even though I really don't like Forbidden's music.

Right..the dude has a REALLY good voice..and it is fiting with the music as does Angela/Arch Enemy..it's a package deal..
I just wished they threw a little more "balls" into it vocally..Metal should be all about Balls..even if a girl sings..
I mean, It's metal,,Jocaim Cans of Hammerfall sings "Nice" ..but he's in a POWER metal band...where's the "power"..but the dude sings like a chick with a nice voice..I think!!Last edited by horns666; 07-26-2006, 04:48 PM."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"

Getting back to the subject...the Gigantour website has a cool feature, a streaming broadcast of select songs from each band on the tour...it starts with Dawn Patrol. That's a really good idea, because you can get a good idea of what each band sounds like for those not familiar with them...that is a great idea IMO...too bad other tour websites don't have that...check it out if you haven't already."Quiet, numbskulls, I'm broadcasting!" -Moe Howard, "Micro-Phonies" (1945)

The line up is not as good as last year's but it's Megadeth so I'll be there. As for Lamb Of God, I understand why people might not like them but I love 'em. To me they are one of the better newer bands out there and they have this crazy work ethic that makes me dig what they do.I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine. - Ayn Rand
