  • Slayer - Christ Illusion

I just got it yesterday. Definitely not a disappointment. Nothing particularly innovative, or groundbreaking, but it's Slayer, so I wasn't expecting that anyway. Just some solid fucking metal tunes.

I'll definitely be buying a legit copy when it's released.

    Anyone else heard it yet?

I actually did hear it a few days ago. It's Slayer, that's about all I can say. Nothing great, but I'm also picking it up. It's worth a few listens. Honestly I was a bit dissapointed, I figured it's been like 5 years since the last album and they'd have time to work on it, but after reading a lot of interviews where they just kinda rushed to get it done in certain parts, I can hear it in the final outcome. I also kinda expected to hear some "The Gathering" drumming from Lombardo, but it's still some great work regardless. Good stuff!

Just got this today. Pretty good album, typical Slayer. Sounds like Kerry and Jeff are using a little less gain these days on their rhythm tones.

It's old familiar once again, but I think this one is a much better effort. Best in years really. Its not a classic by any means, but GHUA, Diabolicus, and Divine were tired sounding albums to me, lifeless. Like not even one song really. But the singing is much better on this one, much more aggressive and lively. The guitar tones are much better, and a more suitable production given their style (drier and more raw, closer to Reign in Blood), and the riffs are sounding more inspired. Catalyst is a great tune, loved it. To me, Slayer is all about Jeff Hanneman. When he's on, the riffs are great and it all takes off from there. If he's uninspired, things go downhill fast.

I listened to 1/2 of it on the way home today. I wasn't impressed. It sounded very predictable. Jihad and the song after it sounded fresher, but the Jihad intro riff is pretty weak. Sounds almost like a joke. I'll have to give it a few more listens with the headphones on. I loved God Hates Us All.

Listened to it a bit more, really love it!!! To me, it's got elements of GHUA, Diabolus, Divine and Seasons. The production is really good, guitars are nice and clear and raw... maybe it's because the album was produced by Josh Abraham this time and Rick Rubin is only the executive producer.

I am not a huge Slayer fan, I have Reign In Blood and that is it. Is this one worth downloading or picking up? I like RIB alot..but of course, that is classic Slayer.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

It's worth picking up! While you're at it, treat yourself to South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss and God Hates us all. C.I. took a couple of listens for me, I think the raw guitar tone threw me a little.

I think it's awesome as well!!! Jihad and Consfearacy are my favourites, but there are alot of good songs on it! The only one I kinda dislike is Eyes Of The Insane... I don't really like the way Tom sings it.
