  • Drum Mics

    I'm looking for mics, I don't know what to buy. Can anybody list some good mics for overhead mics, individual mics for the bass drums and so on.

    What else will I need ? like speakers ? pa system ?

    I don't know jack about this

    neither do i but thru trial and error we have found an sm 57 works great on a snare drum...d.m.

      SM 57's also work well on toms. I currently use an Audix drum pre pack for recording that came with 2 overheads as well as a individual mics for kick,snare and toms. I am very satisfied with the sound and price. They also make a less expensive version called the fusion pre pack. You could also go with an AKGD112 , looks like an egg, and it has been a very popular and inexpensive kick drum mic. Good luck.

        JGcable has a nice new set for sale in the classifieds for 75 bucks. I already have the same set, otherwise I'd buy his.

          SM57 on the snare. Sennheiser 421's on toms, AKG D112 on outside kick, any good high quality large cap condenser on inside kick near beater, SE or Neumann small cap condenser on hats, 2 AKG 414's as close as possible to each other for overheads.

          Other mic options are RODE mics and Audio Technica mics. Beyer too
