The crooked / corrupt town basically fucked him over completely. Classic example of shitting on a guy so much that it drives him off the edge. It is important to note though, that he targeted specific city buildings, the company that started fucking him over, and the town newspaper which mocked him repeatedly and also wrote negative stories about him.

The claims of him having a .50 or any other rifles later proved to be false. The only gun they found in the cab of the bulldozer was the handgun he used to kill himself. It was later thought that police told the media about the rifles to make him look like the "bad guy".
