I like 'em w/ sauerkraut, & a couple years ago we came up with a way to cook dogs similar to a dish my great grandmother from Hungary used to make:

Grill or fry the dogs (good kosher dogs, brats or kielbasa ) 'til they're good & brown
Saute onions & a little garlic in a deep pan
Add sauerkraut (rinse it first if it's really strong or salty) & mix it well
    Add the dogs or sausage
Pour in about 1/2 a beer (the better the beer, the better it will taste) & stir it in
I also add lots of ground pepper
Cover & cook on med-low for 20-30 min.
    Stir occasionally

The brown goodness from the dogs or sausage mixes in with the kraut & onions & the flavors all blend together. If you like kraut with your dogs, I think you'll like this!

I like my dogs Portillo's lol the chicago guys will get that. But when i do make them myself i usualy do the micrwave thing cus im too lazy to do it anyother way. lol When i wanna eat i wanna eat. Im not much of a fan of making a big deal of cooking for one. SO yeah microwave. but i do like them boiled and grilled too. As long as there isnt too much char on the dog its awesome.

          Henrik,
Whenever I go to Denmark, the first thing I do is get one of those
hot dogs they sell on the street from a cart. Then I get one of those soft ice creams. yummm.
          Steamed hot dogs for me.
Hebrew National 1/4 beef franks w/ steamed bun.
oh add some chili to that please.

Boil them in beer (microwave) with onions. Fish the onions out, dry them a little, and slap on some mustard (and said onions). Top with "neon green" relish and a "sport pepper" mmmmm.

Thanks for the other ideas here guys! I got some 'sperimenting to try out.

Well, if you got a true Ripper here in NJ, you got it at a place called Rutt's Hut in Clifton. My favorite spot for hot dogs. That place has been around forever and is one of the top 10 hot dogs joints in the country.

Finn, rumour has it, that the guy inside the cart urinates in the hot dog water now and then. Where else should he go? The cart has no toilet :ROTF:

We once had a very successful hot dog guy named Allan, and he ran a cart, which he called McAllan. The locals loved his little cart and the food he made. Then McDonalds "restaurants" started popping up left and right here in Denmark and before Allan could say "More ketchup?" he was sued by McDonalds for using that name and forced to drop it. They said that people could mistake his hot dog cart for the REAL DEAL, namely McDonalds.

Just a little dog story for ya'.

That's fucked up. Since when does McDonald's sell hot dogs?

I prefer mine grilled (w/ nice char all over). But I'll also eat them DEEP FRIED!! Deep fried hotdogs rule.......the skin gets nice and crisp and it just adds a nice all-around flavor.

Here is a cool hotdog (watch the vid): http://www.heralddispatch.com/apps/p...VIDEO/60803017

This place has the BEST hotdogs I've ever eaten.

Have you ever been to Rutt's Hut (in Clifton, NJ)?

                          http://www.hollyeats.com/RuttHut.htm

deep fried dogs are their speciality; good stuff!

I love a good hot dog, but I really prefer the kind with casing, so they kinda snap or pop when you bite into them. Locally (los angeles) the good places to go are Pink's (long lines, ok dogs); The Weiner Factory (in the valley, really good dogs); and Skooby's (Hollywood)

I like them any way, but I prefer grilled.

The best hotdog in the world is a Coney from Hydes in Liverpool, NY. I would go to that shithole town just to eat one of those. My dad grew up on them, he was from Syracuse. They cook them on a conveyor belt grill thing.

Rutt's Hutt. I lived in NJ through H.S. and left. I never heard of Rutt's Hutt until I saw them on Food TV When I was young on the way back from our Jersey Shore house to North Jersey, we used to stop at a place, I think at 539 and 70. Best of everything including Malts and Shakes. I think it was near Whitting or New Egypt. It was a good stop off point after seeing the races at New Egypt Speedway too.

My friend called me earlier today because he took today off of work. We made plans to go to Rutt's tonight for dogs and beer. The best. Anyone else want to go?
