As the crowd said... Slayer.
The show was in this big warehouse and it kicked major ass. Quebecers are definite metalheads. Just before slayer there was C.O.B and Lamb of god and man it was brutal.
Some guys were high on drugs during the slayer mosh pit's and they were mostly fighting and landing dropkicks. They got their nose broken he he

Well, I am going to have to go with the crowd on this one. Slayer, South of Heaven Tour, at Studio West in AZ. This was a disco club so there was a dance floor in the middle with a guard rail around it. People were diving off the rail towards the stage and off the stage toward the rail. The pit separated the stage and the dance floor. Tom was punched by a jackass security guard. Tom retaliated and left the stage. People started chanting "riot", at least one more security guard got messed up and then Slayer decided to come back to finish the set. I heard a guy got killed there, but I didn't see it happen. After the show there were cops in riot gear everywhere and more cop cars than I ever remember seeing at one time. It was nuts. I have seen Slayer a handfull of time over the years and the shows are always crazy.
For those of you who don't "Mosh", I agree with you now. However, when I was a kid it wasn't the same as it is now. We used to look out for each other and have fun. People got hurt now and then, but when people bump into each other that is going to happen. Something changed in the early 90's and the focus shifted to trying to hurt people. I would see guys stand around the outside of the pit trying to trip people or sucker punch them as they went by. That seems to be the standard now...lame...

I fell into a mosh pit at a Don Williams concert years ago. It was similar to what you guys are talking about, except for the violence and stuff. It was more like a bunch of lazy boy recliners sitting around with a few pots of coffee. Man, I used to be pretty wild.My goal in life is to be the kind of asshole my wife thinks I am.

I dunno about inside but there was plenty of Violence outside the Mean Fidler in London in Jan when Obituary didn't show up!
I was most displeased to find out that they returned in June AFTER it had happened. There was some violence in my living room right then! I have a foam brick for just such an occasion
Slayer in 92 was quite a scary experience but that is probably because I was 12!
Biohazard gigs used to be quite fun, stage diving etc was encouraged.
I found most of the hardest Death Metal bands had quite placid audiences compared to some that you might have thought to be softer. For instance Morbid Angel, Carcass, Napalm Death etc on the Gods of Grind tour, there was some mosh pit action but not as much as I have seen at other shows.

Slayer at Clash Of The Titans in 91. The floor of the Baltimore Arena was divided in half, front (near the stage) was seats then the sound board then the back half was open floor. Mild pits for AIC, Anthrax and Megadeth. When Slayer came on the pit started to just the intro noise and coverd the entire back half of the arena. Complete and utter mayhem. They were pulling security guards over the railings seperating the front and back half of the floor it was fuggin nuts.
There is nothing like being on stage and seeing a pit start and feeling that energy come back to you. Better than any drug I have tried. Greatest compliment you can give imo."told you guys that spandex, hairspray and makeup on guys was a bad idea, and now look what happened - you all turned into women." - Newc
