Yes, I usually catch the Perseids every year, but it's a hassle finding a good dark viewing area around here.

Same here, unfortunately. We have that horrible suburban orange glow just about everywhere except the very North end of the beach or far south near the Carolina line. 5 or so years ago during the Perseids, my wife & I were driving out to dinner & a few huge ones blasted across at a low trajectory. Quite a few people pulled off the road. The light pollution didn't matter too much that year.

In mid November, I always try to catch (well...not really catch) the Leonids (Ron..help me out on the spelling here). My wife & I sit in the hot tub, and count how many we see each night. The best time to see them is 3:30am to 5:00am. In early bow season, I'll stand there in the dark for a half hour or so before walking to my treestand...very cool!

Annual watcher.. whenever I can...I typically work nights and am up till dawn most times anyways...I work in the countryside of the burb's and live out of the city far enough to take in a good show on the front lawn.
My g/f bro is a 'watcher' amatuer astronomer.. so we get some good pointers. Thanks for heads up.

I'm on the road a lot at night and view these showers quite frequently they are very cool.

One of the most surreal nights I've ever had was hanging out with some friends and driving home and there was some meteors in the sky flying along visible to the eye. We pulled over and just watched for a bit.. Makes you feel quite, quite small and realize how big the world & beyond is.

YES! Dammit!!! Even way out here in the boonies of W. Tejas its all overcast. It won't rain, that would be a miracle.
Maybe tomorrow it will clear up and we can still see them.
