Ron Hubbard.. the Sci Fi writer. We're all whacky to a degree but that is whack...IMO.
I thought about moving to Clearwater back about 6-7 years ago. Parent company had a branch there. I did not know they were based there at the time.
That pretty much sums it up...Sci Fi. It should be called the "Church of Pay-entology". "Spiritual enlightenment" only comes when the members pay their way to the next level. Good thing Tom Cruise isn’t poor... He'd never make it to heaven then.

You should see them walking around downtown Clearweater in their little uniforms. They own a LARGE chunk of the buildings in downtown CLW.
Big business.
That would be a very easy blanket generalization as the word is based on sects. Yeah.. I am being somewhat hypocritical in judging them when some could view my beliefs in the same scope.
Would that also imply a non religion being free to pursue its own cult, belief and sects? A structured premise of non structure? What are you free of? Conformity? What is it you adhere too? A different form of ritualistic practice that denies a practice of good to serve self or other aspects of human nature?
I've read Hubbards works when he was known more as a SciFi writer -Battlefield Earth (a long ass book) and Mission Earth..I can see they are in a similar vein.. same mentality as Dianetics. Same writer, different style.
I read Dianetics or some of it.. it has some stated good aspects..doesn't mean I will buy into it further or subscribe to it. I think its just one mans offshoot vision of humanity based on modern psychology, humanity and its future but I also think it served as a means help himself cope and to make $.
I think Steven King could make up a pretty scary religion too.
R.Kelly: Tom Cruise won't you come out da closet. I said please come out da closet.
R.Kelly: So then I pulled out my gun!
Reporter: Oh shit here we go with the gun again...
