          Now, the Universial Life Church, I have been a minister since 1969, is the way to go. They let you believe anything you want or not. They don't shape you head with all kinds of mumbo-jumbo. L Ron was a sci-fi writer with his head way out there. Hensley, the founder of our church, was nothing more than a rube from Modesto, CA that saw a lot of kids being exposed to the draft and headed to Viet Nam. As ministers, they could CO out. The Supreme Court said the ULC was legit. I can marry 'em but I can't bury 'em. Half ass legit, at best :ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF: I'm still an ordained minister and I can start a church any time I want. Talk about disorganized religion.

            But then you pretty much have to fault all religions.

              I worship myself. Seems to work best for me.

                Having a religious belief and faith in a higher being is not, per se, bad. A personal belief in a higher being has been around since man could think. The fault lies in the use of "Organized Religion" as a rationale for making "Non Believers" the enemy is to justify the self interest of power hungry people or governments that just want land and to control the people. I am an atheist without the cosmic answer, but I don't fault the individual that has faith. And I respect them. I fault the power hungry fanatics that use "Religion" as a vehicle to advance nothing more than a bunch of meglamaniacs.

                  Religion is nothing but primitive science mixed with the social morays of the society who adheres to it.

                  I have no problem with someone having faith, I find it humorous, but I won't begrudge anyone for believing in a higher order and a better existence after this life...most people's lives are shit and this certainly gives them comfort.

                  Me, I am a pragmatist and I have never seen anything that would make me believe in god...and I probably never will.

                    [quote= morays.

                    Mike[/quote] That would be "Mores". The reason I know that is I used the word in the correct context in highschool back in 1966 and I got a big "ugh" from everyone including the teacher.:ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF:

                        "During the 1960s and 1970s, many people became ministers in the ULC because they believed that being a minister either would help keep them from being drafted into military service during the Vietnam War or would enable them to get income tax relief as members of the clergy. Both of these beliefs have always been false, as merely being ordained does not exempt one from being drafted and ministers as individuals receive no tax benefit, only churches themselves are tax exempt."

                        According to that article you are also allowed to officiate at BOTH weddings and funerals...

                            Organized religion in general has been, and always will be one of the greatest demises of the human society. Everyone seems to need some kind of "crutch" to get through life. Religion is that crutch.

                              'Demises'?

                              I tend to agree, but that's putting it white & black. I'm happy we have/had Catholic religion and The Church, it was probably the single most important entity in the history and forming of Western Civilization.
                              You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.
