I agree, but demise doesn't get an S on the end of it.

" You had to be there.:ROTF: I was going to the local JC and the , then, state colllege up the road had Kirby, the founder of the ULC, as a speaker. We went up there for the hell of it. He asked at the end whether anyone would like to be ordained. Why not?:ROTF: Look, I was in the first year of the draft lottery. My number was 54. I was Nam-Jam on toast. Well, I stayed in college and was deferred until 1971. Then I got my 1A notice. You went right to the top of the list for the next year but they could only get you for the first 3 months of the year. I got my 1A around October. I thought I was going to die just thinking about getting drafted. Well, the greatest Sec of D was Melvin Laird. He said they aren't going to draft anyone in the first 3 months of 1972. He let me and 500,000 lucky bastards off the hook.:ROTF: I didn't become ordained for any other reason than it was something to do. I did not do it to avoid anything. I did marry a couple. But at the time when we were confirming my ordainness, I was told I couldn't bury people. Well, I guess I have two holy pistols in my pockets. now. I bow to Modesto not Mecca.

I still have to point out that the majority of people whoi came and dove into the Katrina mess to help, while our government first floundered and then played the blame game with itself, were church organizations that fed, clothed and helped people rebuild their houses. All without preaching. But this area is pretty Christian in makeup anyway.

So we'll have to agree to disagree on this one Mark. No offense, I hope.

Oh, on-topic, I haven't seen any Scientologists helping out down here, though I suppose some may be around.

Man those guys would be screwed if they caught soem nasty desiese taht was only treatable by medicine...

I still think it's an overglorified cult, kinda makes me glad I live in wales really doubt there are many scientolgists around here...

Stilll it's like scientology was invented bya scifi writer, who was a known bullshitter, he apparently accomplished 50 years of adventuring and different tasks like mountain climbing expiditions etc by the time he was forty...

I'll try and find that quote if I can, it was quite hilarious one of his writer pals owned him bad by pointing out that he can't have physically achieved all he did in the time he'd lived...

I'm no christian but I think most people would agree that jesus was amore important person than LRH....JMO

Well, I'll share my logic...a heads up for the "sensitive" types..

Religious based charities and organizations are OBLIGATED to repsond to disasters such as Katrina,it's what they do. This sustains their purpose and God given role in this life making it legit. I know this because I am a parishiner of "Our Lady of Angels" church via my son, and as a ex-Italian Roman catholic of St Rocco's parish for 30 years..So I know how this stuff works...I still give weekly donations to the church..because it's mandatory to keep my son's tuition low..

Not to say there isn't very good people in these groups with the best, heart felt intentions, there certainly is..but these traditional, white light based moral systems is a double edged sword and also self serving to that very organization...it's what brings in the donations and tax write offs..and keep the church in biz...a very huge and powerful biz..

Distaster such as Katrina gives such organizations a GREAT platform to promote themselves..a great oppurtunity to display God's love and righteousness and their devotion to all. It's very impressive and I can see how folks buy into it..especially at a time of tragedy, when people's lives and hopes are greatly challenged.!!

That's why I always say God loves tragedy..it brings man closer to him.

God LOVES disaster and tragedy..HE creates them..he's "the creator" of ALL things...so sayeth his book.

Then his people suffer, clean up the aftermath and then praise his name..and THANK him over and over again..the book of Job is a great bible example!!!!

it's a no brainer for God..it's a win/win situation for the big guy and for his people.

I do look at ALL religion as a crutch for the weak..it's something to believe in..for some, that faith is all they have..let them have it..

I don't buy it, and have no use for it and never will..but if religion makes a person "better"..so be it..

I do believe that religion is why we are at war and why man will always have war..always had ..always will..Caine killed Able..and we haven't stopped killing since.

War is in our design..it's what we do, it's what we know..even Heaven wasn't exempt of war..God loves it, because he always wins!!

I don't buy it, ANY of it..people are naturally power hungry, jealous, petty, greedy fucktards that come in every creed and color..War is inevitable.

Man's intelligenace is a double edged sword ..with that comes manipulation , invention and is the most vicious animal ever to walk this planet.

I have the only solution to war but it is perceived hateful and evil to most..but it is the only thing that will work...a new world order if ya will..Race/Creed and human pollution would be obsolete...so would war.

Getting rid of human pollution would rid many burdens to mankind including disease...and shit not only floats to it's own level..it rolls downhill taking and dragging everyone and everything with it..

The weak don't inherit the earth..WE inherit the weak!!

                  BTW..No it's not the devil's fault..he to is a spectator..created by God...that's if you buy that story..

God will beat Allah eventually..he always wins..

                  Just thinkin'..my usual spew..

I don't "hate" Christians, Buddists, Scientologists or any of the so called faiths..I hate blind STUPIDITY which covers a lot of ground..way too much ground if you ask me..ground that would be completely scortched if I had my way..

BTW..I may have just KILLED another thread..that always happends with this shit..it makes way too much sense to debate..that's why..:ROTF:

Well put, Bill...some very valid points in your post.

I despise radical religiousness in all guises, whether it be my own religion, or someone elses. I will admit that I personally feel zealous religious faith is indicative of weakness. I feel that people who are radicals have so little faith in themselves, that they require an outside guiding force in their life.

I will also admit that I am sickened by the religious bent this nation of ours seems to be on...whether it be real or simply manufactured for political purposes...I fucking hate it. To me, it feels as if we are turning back the clocks on 200 years of hard won enlightenment.

You watch, we will get Jeb next...even more religious radicalism shoved down our throat. The only thing weighing against him is that he converted to charismatic Catholicism....and I think the heartland still mistrusts Catholics.
