  • He threw away my guitar mags!!!

Ok, I can't keep this inside anymore, I have to let it out or I'll go mad.
About a month ago me and my girlfriend was about to move, and so her father offered to help out. Sounded like a nice gesture, or so I thought.. How wrong I was..

I had sortet out everything and had all my guitar magazines (probably around 100 of them, I'd kept them all) packed neatly in a box.
When my gf's father saw the magazines he went: "What do you need those for? You probably just look at them once and just put them away anyway. I'll throw them away for you, that will save some weight when travelling."

I was struck speechless, I could not believe what he'd just said.
And as I was standing there with my mouth and eyes wide-open in disbelief, he threw them all in the trash.

Those where mags with CD's, DVD's and all sorts of good tuition, it's from those mags I learned to play..
And he just chucked it away like bunch of cheap paper..
I thought it was a very disrespectful thing to do, he didn't even ask me if it was ok for him to do it..

Thanks for hearing me bitch about, now if you'll excuse me I've got to go and buy myself a new guitar-magazine

So, did you dumpster dive or what? I would have dug them out unless they were coated with shrimp carcass remains.

I wanted to dive in there, but shortly after the whole thing was covered with broken pieces of glass, a nice little "iceing on the cake" lol

I would have instantly said "No way!" vehemently enough that he'd know not to do that. You have to speak up or some folks will always run you over. Sorry for the loss, but next time you'll know what to do.

You're absolutely 110% right, sadly I might add
I was just so dumbstruck, I couldn't make my mind up if he was joking or not, I thought he knew how passionate I was about my guitar-playing.
                  Guess not

Maybe if you told them you could probably sell most of those mags for double face value or more on Ebay, then they'd understand. When you put it in monetary terms poeople usually get it. Even if you actually had no intent to sell them, when people realize they're worth money, then they get it.

                    BTW welcome to the JCF!

Sounds like he was taking an opportunity to get rid of something his daughter had whined about in the past.

                            sorry for your loss.
wether he is a guitar-fan or not, he should have payed some respect to your things. and if you had over 100 mags already, anybody should have been able that this is a collection and probably worth something for the owner.

my friends, my parents, almoust everyone of them has got strange hobbies, that I just don't get. my dad keeps on pimping his car, one of my friends is a hifi-geek, another one buys swords and axes to run thru the forest with them, playing knight or whatever...
these are all things I just won't get, not my cup of tea, but I'm able to see that this is important to them. everybody needs something like that, to put energy into and to make progress even when the rest of your life seems to be stucked and not moving.
it's each for his own when it comes to choose a hobbie, but others should be able to respect that, no matter about their own preference.
