Fett- I dont know about the spoiled thing dude.... My dad bought me a guitar when I graduated high school. Now he did not say "go out and get whatever you want" but he spent $1000 on an import RR which I later traded in for a USA RR which I later sold to someone here. I am sure if he had the funds he would say go out and get whatever you want because he had a great amount of support for my music and the things I like to do and wants to give me the things he could not have, etc, etc,.. and for a family of poor mexicans $1000 was a big deal.

Now if this dude's dad is completely loaded and buys him whatever he wants whenever he wants it well.. that is another story right?

But for now, lets support the bro and be insanely jealous that his father won't offer to buy US guitars.

I agree with your previous statement about a good ear and fast fingers. I had a Yamaha/Carvin strat mutt that sounded great, played well, and was my main axe for a few months. I would have played it at church if I had to and I would have played it at metal gigs if I had to. I think the pickups in the guitar were worth more than the instrument itself.

To the dude who's dad is buying him an axe because he is going to music school; screw the stereotypes and what people think a guitar is supposed to be used for. Dont go out and buy a warlock or a Daisy Rock guitar but get something that plays well, sounds good, looks good, and something that you can keep forever if you want to or sell it easily if needbe. I used my RR throughout all my guitar classes in college. The instructor teased me for having what he called "A Weapon", but it worked just as well.

Have you thought about a seven string? I dont know about you, but if I had the funds I would either get a Universe of a COW 7 and have a neck pickup put it.

Yes, they'll do a pointy, but not the Jackson-style pointy on Becker's guitar. They'll do the early '90s pointy like this...

OK. I guess. So, I'm a young guy and I expect my parents to get me anything I want. I want a $1000.00 guitar. Thanks, Dad. I want a new car. Thanks, Dad. I don't have a clue at what it really costs. It gives me a sense that I can have have anything I want. That's great when you can rely on your parents to give you anything you want. But what happens when I let loose on my own? Then it is up to me to make it or not. For you young pups that think it's "Easy Street" as you get older, just wait until the parents really cut the cord. Back to the topic. Buy a guitar for the feel not for the price. All the opinions on what you should buy are helpful. But, the bottomline is to feel it; touch it and like it. I have the ability and the money to buy on-line. Some smat moves and smart and some not so.

Actually the $1000 guitfiddle was a completely unexpected graduation gift Selling it sucked the big one.

Yes back to the topic at hand. Try out a fixed bridge SL2 if you liked the Soloist. Get one in some sort of transparent finish and you will be set. I don't remember what specific model it is but Bart from Quo Vadis uses a Soloist and I believe it has a sunburst finish or something similar. I cant remember what color it is off the top of my head but it is more pretty than metal and it is a Jackson.

That, my friend, is what parents should do.

I bought my first guitar, a cheap Hondo Strat copy. After the first year, my parents wound up buying me a Kramer for Christmas that I picked out (like '86 or '87). Granted, it was only a plywood 600ST that was only about $200 or $300, but it served me well for many years, especially after I swapped out the crappy single-locking Floyd II for a real Floyd and put a DiMarzio X2N in the bridge. The guitar is now retired because the screw-in Floyd posts are tilting forward, and the plywood just doesn't sound as good as I used to think.

I am just a bitter old fart. I didn't expect anything from my parents. Nor did I get get any motivation from them. In the "50's and "60's, kids just grew up. I lived in the "burbs". I can not think of one person I knew that had any direction reguardiing the "future". It was left up to us to "grow up". My parents and a lot of others just let us float. That was a time when an individual had a choice, somewhat. For me, it was school and college. The alternative not even a thought. For the kids that didn't buy that, they just drugged out or went onto the trades and now they are rich.:ROTF: Grab your parents by the checkbook. I'm feeling so Billish.:ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF:

Cavin actually made a couple (2-5) of Jackson-Style pointy which was not offered to the public 2 or 3 years back. Can't recall exactly why they did that run but it was supposed to be identical to Jason's (without the Kahler). I think somebody in the forum knows about this too.

Thanks for the support. I would just like to let everybody know that I am not a spoiled bratt and that my parents are not reach. We are middle class, but we are not millionaires. Pretty much all my guitar gear(except birthday presents) has been bought with my own money from my job and doing extra work for my dad like chipping and painting a big fence in our back yard. It took me a long time to earn my DK2, and my dad does not believe in instant gratification. My dad wants to buy me a guitar for music college because I have worked hard(6-8 hours of practice a day), and he wants me to leave with a quality instrument that will last me for a long time.

That being said, this is one of the guitar brands that I really am interested in along side Carvin, Jackson, Suhr, and Anderson http://www.tkinstruments.com/id106.htm . Check it out this custom shop. Some of the custom features on this guys guitars are insane, such as angled frets for perfect pitch, and a uniquely shaped neck.

Good on ya, man. Sounds like you are lightyears ahead of the game and so is your family. You are going to college to learn to be an artist. Get whatever guitar that will further that goal. It's not the flash of the guitar, it's the flesh that makes it sing. (That's pretty fucking profound:ROTF: :ROTF: )
