What guitar should I get for music college?

I'd recommend a pre-2003 (ebony boarded) Jem 7VWH for extreme playability and versatility.

I really like the JEM's, but do you think people would think that I was just another Steve Vai clone and look down on me. Steve Vai is my favorite player, but I don't try to copy him. He is just so unique.

Anyway, my hands are pretty big so maybe thats why I kinda cramp up. I just don't want to get stuck with to fat of a neck.
