If my memory serves me correctly, C.H.U.D. was also the name of a horror movie back in the late seventies. It believe it stood for Creatures Hidden Under Dirt. Nothing to do with eating humans, though.

this is one of those movies that I've always walked past in the video store back in the 80's and never rented, because it looked like total shite.

so my recollection was entirely from that experience alone.

I think you all have it wrong. The movie was just a cover. C.H.U.D. actually stands for Conservative. Have-No-Fun. Undersexed. Dickheads.
It's an acronym for the Far Right before they surfaced and began trying to dominate the world with their small penises..penis' ....or peni..or what ever.
