Sweden's Dissection frontman suicide

I don't know how many of you are Dissection fans; I just found out Jon Nödtveidt has committed suicide. They were scheduled to play Hollywood next month. Nödtveidt was a Satanist who was convicted of murder in 1998.

I am, or better, was a dissection fan. I hated the last album though. I was surprised to hear Jon committed suicide,this band as a really sad past. The Somberlain and SOTLB are two of the best swedish albums.

Yeah i have read it this morning. Well regardless of the suicide Dissection already was finished because Jon said he will be disband Dissection after all the stuff.

Yes Dissection was one of the best swedish bands. Sad to see them go this way.

They we're not bad. I like where dead angels lie song A LOT! But the rest of that CD (storm of the light's bane?) sounds the same to me..same vocal and guitar melodies..or maybe i'm deaf. I didn't listen to their other stuff a lot so I don't remember how was it. I haven't heard the new cd yet and I don't want either.

As far as I remeber the book (read it about a year ago) he was not interviewed. Maybe you've mistaken him for Ihsahn (frontman of the Emperor, also a satanist and there's an interview with him in the book about satanism). And there's also an interview with one guy who killed a homosexual (like Jon did) but I can't remember his name right now and if I recall correctly it was not Jon.

Wow i wonder where i said that it's sad that HE went this way. I just said it's sad the band went this way. Of course what he did was wrong and i don't approve his actions. I just think it's sad that a IMO great band was put to an end because one guy (although the main guy behind the band) did stupid acts like this.

I have been a Dissection fan since around 1996, when one of my bandmates at the time played Storm of the Light's Bane. I was completely in awe over the musicianship, and the vocals were far more tolerable than most of the other "extreme" stuff I had heard up to that point. That was my first exposure to Swedish bands, and despite buying plenty of In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and Arch Enemy albums, Dissection always remained my favorite.

Although Reinkaos wasn't quite what I expected, it was a good album. The awesome melodies were there, although the drumming was a bit reserved compared to the old stuff. Definitely a more polished affair overall. When Jon announced that he had done all he set out to do musically and was disbanding, I actually had the thought that with his "life's work" complete, he might do something over-the-top like a ritual suicide. It appears that he did exactly that.

The guy was a huge influence on my guitar playing and songwriting, and I frequently have to resist ripping off Dissection riffs in my own songs! I didn't agree with his perspective on life or certain past actions of his, and I don't condone suicide, but he lived and died by his own terms. For me, Dimebag was one of the guitarists that really inspired me to play in the first place, and Jon Nodtveidt inspired me to expand my playing.

As you know there is fools of every creed..I don't need to say that..we are at war because of this.

You see, whether you are a Muslim, Christian, Jewish or Satanist (like me)..you got good folks and assholes like this..and like that dumbfuck from Mayhem.

I would KILL without a blink of an eye and not loose any sleep over it. I know this because I been there many times..but for very valid reasons. Not because of prejudice..that's pure foolishness which only adds to the human pollution..something that true Satanism completely prohibits.

He was no Satanist..he was pure %100 asshole who tagged himself a Satanist ..plain and simple !!

I still like their music tho..old and new. But they could easily replace that pud and go on like buisness as usual..this may be great promotion for the band..it made Mayhem more popular and "notorious"!!!

either way, i can't see supporting anyone like this regardless of how great the music is. there is plenty of great music out their in all genres without having to support sub-human piece of shit murdering assholes.

Well i can understand where you are coming from. But i still think the music is great. Maybe it's just that i normally judge music only by the music itself, not by whom it was made.
