To those who hate Nirvana...

I have said before that I hate Nirvana and Grol's post Nirvana projects. Now let me say why. In and of itself, Nirvana wasn't horrible, but they did lay the mould for what the corporate Music world has been shoving down our throats ever since. In that respect, perhaps I should really turn my derision on the corporate hacks. Yet every time I hear Kurt sing or play I am reminded of what a horrible player her was. No truely good riffs, no well written lyrics, just PAP and the oozings of a diseased mind.

Mind you, I never cared for the whole hair metal thing. With a few exceptions, the majority were just more "made for MTV" trash bands with little or no originality.

Where are all the great new bands? The new Zepplins, or UFO's , or Sabbath's? When the fuck are we going to get another RUSH? We aren't, at least not anytime real soon. Lately the corporate bozo's that determine what we should listen to are slowly moving to a "revival" of classic rock, and yet everything I hear is just another rip off of some band I grew up loving.

I miss the weird genious's like Tom Scholz creating masterpieces of melodic rock in their basements. Or the rock guitar gods like Eddie ripping the heads off of an entire generation of listeners. Or the Geddy'd, Neil's and Alex's creating unparralled works of progressive fury that can transport a listener to a whole different world.

I find excellence in bands like Pagan's Mind now. Bands like that are never going to be big here. Thank God for the internet so I can find them.

In the end Iwill say it again. Fuck Kurt and Grol. Their music is just plain "forgettable".

Oh yeah, and I'm freakin OLD....42, and don't give a shit if that point of view dates me.

Kids probably do relate to Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Kids will follow whatever is "cool" or the latest trends and fads. Why else would normal middle class white kids voluntarily wear clothes 4 sizes too damned big and look like they live under a bridge?

MTV does have a huge influence on kids today, just like it had on kids in my day. I'm in the same age group as most of the other people in this thread, 37. When we were kids in the 80's we had muscle shirts, with British flags, American flags, Japanese flags and we even had them with the rebel flag on them and was able to wear them to school without some historically retarded dickhead screaming racism... We had parachute pants and punk rock hair cuts, which was really a spiked mullet.

Adults of that time didn't get or understand why we'd pay $50 for a pair nylon pants with zippers and pockets all over them and $50 in the 80's was pretty expensive!

That style became popular from the MTV generation of that time. Sammy Hagar, Def Leppard and generally any band that was "in" wore that stuff and so did a lot of kids.

I remember being able to watch Headbangers Ball at 3 in the afternoon and several times throughout the day EVERYDAY. Suddenly rock and metal videos was replaced with YO! MTV Raps and headbangers ball was moved to 2am, then moved to midnight on Saturday night before it disappeared totally.

Now we have to put up with fucking idiot white kids blasting that stupid shit while bouncing around in their ghetto sleds with all their little bling thinking they are cool.

So does MTV have an influence on people? Damn right it does. Good or bad it does.

I didn't hate Nirvana, I liked a few songs, but I don't miss them at all. I couldn't stand Pearl Jam at all and could only take the whole grunge thing in small doses and I thought the whole filthy image was ridiculous.

I despise that entire era as well as the current hiphop horse shit. I really despise the fact that because of it I can't buy a fucking pair of pants only one person can fit in!

I almost played a Nirvana song live once. I also almost played Sedated once too live. Both times I stopped the song around 10 seconds in and told the band and the crowd to kiss my ass. I would rather work in the kitchen at the club than play that dribble.

I'm 48 and although I listened to a couple of songs, I never thought they were decent enough to make it big. It just goes to show that if you hit the scene at just the right time, have a gimmick that takes hold, you too can be a star. Just ask Gene, Paul, Ace, and Peter.

One other thing. For the editors of all the music rags, Kurt Cobain was not a guitar virtuoso nor was he the "next John Lennon." I guess if you write something long enough, you tend to believe your own dribble.

So, with that said, I'm very pleased to see a turn around for the better in my POV..meaning how music is perceived in general.

Metal will always be cheesy, in every genre known to man, always was and will be..it has to be..because Metal is an escape, a musical fantasy..

But metal fantasies quickly turn to metal nightmares when dudes dress like chicks ..lipstick, blue eye shadow, gay-glo leg warmers, spandex, and belly shirts ..singing and prancing happily ..hand in hand about stupid, happy bullshit..that's not "metal"..never was..it's the anti-metal..it's what KILLED metal!!!!!

I liked Vixen and Lita Ford better than ANY hairmetal band..because for one they could play and they were chicks..that's OK!!

Headbangers ball had to die..it ruled for the first couple years until fag metal took over..They would play "Pour some sugar on me" and Poison all fuggin' day in constant, mind numbing rotation..I mean ALL FUGGIN" day..So, I couldn't waite to watch HBB, then as soon as it came on..they played "Pour some sugar on me" followed by 2-3 Poison vids..ahhhhhh FUCK YOU Head Bangin' my Balls!!!

The it came back a couple years ago..it came back with a vengeance..but you see how all the fake metal band labels buy all the airtime and commercial slots for heavy promotion for their crap..so you have to watch two hours of crap to see 2-3 good REAL metal bands..So, it's starting all over again..

But it's not as bad..I'd rather see some kids whining about some shit with black finger nail polish than drag queens in Day-Glo acting as Gay as humanly fuggin' possible..So gay, the vids actually gave me shrinkage!!!

Metal is about Hate, Fire, War, Blood, Sex, Bloody Sex, Satan, more Satan and etc. Metal is REBELLION..it's supposed to be LOUD scare the shit out of your parents and anyone who hears it in trafiic. Poison didn't scare any parent..it made them worry if their kid was gay??

I had to endure Poison six fuggin' times live..I never seen a band that much live with the exception to Nevermore..they opened for everybody..I want to beat up Poison, I know their wose bands out there..but I have a personal vendetta for Poison..I want to punch them right in the fuggin' face..all of them..for all that fuggin' torture!!

Please, don't get me started on "Nu" or "Rap" metal..because I'll go on a fuggin' spaz that'll blow the ass right outta ya..I'm soooo fuggin' glad that bullshit died..it' ain't funny!!!

I guess I'm with you Horns. I stopped following metal entirely between Master of Puppets and Justice for All. I've never even listened to Justice for All in it's entirety because the one song I did hear, "One" I think it was, didn't seem as authentically angry as previous stuff. I'm sure it's hard to write authentically angry music when your filthy rich and living like a king. I moved on to other stuff, Ministry's "Land of Rape and Honey" was around then. If you like angry music that's gotta be up there with angriest. Bunch of electronic / industrial music . Weirder the better. I'm only now going back to metal and old hard rock in the last year or two since I picked the guitar back up.

Never cared for Nirvana - never bought a thing they produced...never will... I did like Soundgarden and Ten by PJ....it was just different...

My Uncle's infliuenced me from like 9 years old with Aerosmith and Ted Nugent...(I remember singing, " Dog, Dog, Doggie Dog...instead of Dog Eat Dog from Free for All...):ROTF: I couldn't understand why I couldn't have my own copy of Sweet Emotion for the fear of my Mom's wrath towards my Uncle's...

Pyromania was my first casette...then I got into other bands b/c a friend turned me on to VH; Motley; Ratt; Dokken; Scorpions...wouldn't change a thing still listen to them all...I didn't know that albums two, three, and four, et al... were just retreads of filler ...it was just the same bad sound to me at the time...maybe ignorance IS bliss? It was bands like Trixter that made me puke...as Metal or Pop Rock became more mainstream the grunge became more rebellious and more appealing to the sheep...
