I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

My ex girlfriend used to work at Tidalwave in in a stripmall the early 90's.. which at the time was like Musicland was to the larger Malls.
Pre Blockbuster and Hollywood video which eventually closed the chain out.

She was really all over the scale in music..(and still is).. into everything. Classical to Anthrax, Bolthrower, Carcass, Death, Massacre, ..I would listen to Anthrax which I thought "I'm a Man" was really pretty cool..but that was about it, all the real obscure underground stuff, I have not even begin to touch until recently. (we're still good friends)

At the same time, she would bring Nirvana store demo cd's home. She spent the good part of her paychecks on employee discounted cass/cd's while trying to promote death metal and their labels at Tidalwave.. which eventually cost her the job as they just were not open to this.

The 90's 'metal' however, was also still in a contest for the market while the 'alternative' scene was trying to strangle it into its death throes. They used to have some major bands come into the store and do promotional signings.

Anyways.. this exposed me to music waaay outside my little realm of Smokin Joe, Yngwie and Schenker etc...

I still not had listened to Death for more than a few songs in my car cass deck a few days ago. Megadeth's Rust in Peace..now that is getting some time even tho I don't really care for Daves voice..Megadeth they were tight on this and Marty.. say what you want about his Kimonos..the guy is a great player. period.

I did not listen to the radio much except for locals and classical.
Howard Stern was still doing obscure stuff on late night TV and nobody really even knew him except for the underground TV scene and locals.

When she brought home Nevermind, Bleach and started buying other...and tried to get me into to finding the appeal of this.. it just didn't hit me then and it still hasn't hit me now.

However,.. I have over the years come to appreciate players like Kim Thayil and Dave Grohl..both are alright in my book.

I'm leaning to the opinion of and attitude of Mark.. you just gotta view it with the right attitude and open mind.
I try to give everything a fair shot.

Cookie monster vocals tho.. they made me laugh then and they still strike me the same way. Difficult as it may be, alot of these bands vocals kind of relates to me in the same way a really 'B' movie/budget horror flick did at a drive-in during the 70's. Musically.. I take that at face value if I can get past the vocals.

Not really...but they flushed the toilet on pretty metal. GNR definitely changed everything. I wore that CD out, literally. Too bad nothing they followed "Appetite" with could recapture that fire. They fell into the trap of gaudy excess they stood against....almost overnight.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

The grunge scene died somewhere in like 98 you know what is funny that on the LA scene a lot of these bands were all playing together from The RHCP to Soundgarden (they played the LA scene albiet from seattle) to G'n R, Janes Addiction, Faith No More etc... and how they all turned out is interesting.

                      • I live in Seattle and I never liked em to. Nirvana was just blah.....It was sad what happened to 80's metal. Grunge makes me depressed, therefore I don't listen to it.

                            • 80's metal was created by the music industry. 80's metal was killed by the music industry. Grunge was created by the music industry. Grunge was killed by the music industry. Rap was created by the music industry. One day it will be killed by the music industry. The whole music industry is a push one, not a pull one. The top guys of the industry control it all. They have the power to make you a top star, and the power to make you disappear. Kurt Cobain was one of their products, he had nothing to do with 80's metal disappearing. Currently, rap is great for them, hip hop is great for them, that is why both are being pushed on you daily with ads, tv, movies, radio, whatever way they can push it on you, they will. It has nothing to do with taste, its all marketing and economics...........
