Spike Lees movie will flop I hope. Does anyone think it will be one sided? Will it be like Mike Moorer films?
Yes, LSU did the study and the Feds and the locals saw it and were well aware of the issues. The Levees were originally designed to hold off Class 3 storms, and over time they have sunk further diminishing their abilities. However, the river levees held, it was the newer constructions on the Industrial, London Avenue and 17th Street Canals that failed. They were designed defectively and constructed defectively by Boh Bros., a local company.

You want my honest opinion? We dodged so many bullets, that we figured we would keep dodging them. Everyone knew the "fill the bowl" theory, and nobody expected a Cat 5...and figured the Levees would hold a 3. Well, what we got was a very strong 3, almost a 4, and they didn't hold.

In the end, I am sure Louisiana will be there contributing money as well as the Feds because the Feds look like they are prepared to hang us out to dry on this.

Seeing as how you are on a factfinding mission, Bush's economic plans didn't even go into effect untill well after the recession hit and his tax cuts slowed down the recession so your statement is flat out wrong. The economy was well on it's way down before Bush even hit office. That is a fact.
Fine, you want to argue with the second statement?

Still, the levees were designed by the feds and funded jointly by the feds and the state. The Army Corps FUCKED UP and thus I feel the feds need to foot the bill for proper protection.

The levees were not designed to withstand a hurrican of Katrina's strength. That was well known by the politicians in New Orleans and LA and they did nothing about it so they are equally to blame.

It was known by a lot of people. The only thing to do would be to spend billions to fix it. Good luck in a state without a tax base.

"Louisiana had been on notice of its vulnerability to catastrophic hurricanes for decades, but over the long term had never fully upgraded its emergency response systems to the level necessary to protect its citizens from those events," according to a report by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

And you are wrong, they WERE designed for a category 3 storm, which is what Katrina degraded to at the point she hit New Orleans. And really, what could be done in the immediate time prior to the storm hitting? There were "improvements" made recently, specifically to the ones that actually failed.

And, my second statement was in regards to Bush creating the greatest deficit this nation has experienced. Are you going to argue with that?

Uhmmm I think we have beat this dead horse to death again. We can all agree to disagree on this. The bottom line is the powers that be all screwed up and alot of people paid the price. Maybe NO will come back maybe it wont. Time will tell.

This thread was about Spike Lees movie. I just hope that flick doesnt start the racial crap up again. Its a people problem now not a racial problem .

Wow..Lots of good stuff to read later..

Just checking in to have a peek..Don't want to waste a day of the rare peace and quiet here at home..I'm writing lyrics..it's going nicely. I don't even know why I bother..I'm not going to be a rock a star anytime soon..

                          Write a book..good idea..yes, I should do that.

I skimmed some of the stuff posted..very cool..staying with the theme of the topic..

I know this is a hot topic..not intented to stir trouble..just good conversation and thought..

I know Mike was on a roll and prolly wrote a book when he lost it all in a stupid computer fart..Man, I hate that!!

Yes, I definitely believe that Nagin should share some of the accountability and take some of the blame..but I know Mayors, that NEVER happends. I was "assigned" to be a butt boy assistant to Mayor Michael R White, a true arrogant, theiving, racist asshole..I think he was indicted for grand theft in office..couldn't happen to a nicer guy..I could write a book on him alone!!

Cops stole cars and shit..how come I never got a break..the best I got was stale donuts and greasy Big Macs!!??

                          Later guys, play nice..

I'm sorry, but I don't consider our war with Iraq defending this nation. Afghanistan and the Taliban, yes...Iraq, no.

Katrina was a category 4. 145 MPH sustained winds when it hit New Orleans making it a strong category 4.

Katrina made its second landfall at 6:10 a.m. CDT on August 29 as a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 125 mph (205 km/h) near Buras-Triumph, Louisiana. At landfall, hurricane-force winds extended outward 120 miles (190 km) from the center and the storm's central pressure was 920 mbar. After moving over southeastern Louisiana and Breton Sound, it made its third landfall near the Louisiana/Mississippi border with 120 mph (195 km/h) sustained winds, still at Category 3 intensity.

That's wrong. 120 MPH winds would not have done that kind of damage in Louisiana.

                                http://www.srh.noaa.gov/bmx/signific...rina/index.php

Hurricane Katrina made landfall along the Gulf Coast early Monday morning August 29th, 2005 as a large category four hurricane. Sustained winds were around 145 mph in Southeast Louisiana. Katrina continued northward, affecting areas from near New Orleans, Louisiana to near Mobile, Alabama. Devastating damage occurred along the Gulf Coast. Katrina will most likely go down as one of the worst natural disasters in United States history.
