Hurricane Katrina made landfall along the Gulf Coast early Monday morning August 29th, 2005 as a large category four hurricane. Sustained winds were around 145 mph in Southeast Louisiana. Katrina continued northward, affecting areas from near New Orleans, Louisiana to near Mobile, Alabama. Devastating damage occurred along the Gulf Coast. Katrina will most likely go down as one of the worst natural disasters in United States history.
Dude, you are wrong. My source is better, the data comes directly from the report filed by the National Hurricane Center.

    Citation: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pdf/TCR-AL122005_Katrina.pdf

It wasn't the wind, it was the storm surge that caused all of the damage. Wind speed is only one factor in storm surge, barometric pressure also plays a huge roll. We did not suffer muh wind damage. Katrina was no Andrew, I lived in Miami when that one hit...and I saw the damage.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.

Dude, I am quoting NOAA. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Winds were clocked at 145 sustained east of the eyewall at landfall. That's a category 4. Those were clocked at the southern most part of Louisiana. By the time it got to New Orleans, the winds may well have been only 125 MPH. Besides, Mississippi got the worst of the wind anyways

Both of you are quoting the same source... NOAA.
One report was written by the NHC and the other by the NWS in Alabama.
I'm going with the NHC report myself.

Edit: Just another fine example of our governments ability to get its own stories straight.

And, my second statement was in regards to Bush creating the greatest deficit this nation has experienced. Are you going to argue with that?

Katrina was a stong Cat 3 at landfall, but the storm surge was created by her at Category 5 strength. That storm surge didn't dissapate just because the winds did, so as far as what the levees had to deal with it WAS a Cat 5 storm to all intents. It wasn't like they expected the winds to blow down the levees, it was always the Gulf coming up the river and into Lake Pontchartrain that was the danger, which came to pass.

I don't know much about The "facts" of Katrina itself. Like I said I don't watch TV. I get most of my news thru you guys which is pretty sad..

Kidding..actually you guys are just as good or better with all the info you guys dig up..from all angles and sources..I get to sift thru them..sort them out and decide on my own like if I was watching the news channels...but without all the commercials.

So, Tetsuo said that this movie, isn't a box office thing..it's on HBO..is this correct.?????

I don't have HBO..I don't watch TV..I don't pay for stuff I don't use. As long as I have the comedy channel to watch South Park I'm happy..

So this Spike Lee movie is being aired already in parts on HBO..so this is "old" headline news about the Katrina movie..if that's so..that's pretty dumb.

Watching TV became nerve racking and stressful for me..very annoying.

So I live under a rock and miss a lot of curent shit..It's not so bad..what I don't know can't hurt me..I guess. Unless Cleveland gets hit by a hurricane..ummm I don't think I have too worry about that.

If I want to watch the weather..I look out the window and take a guess.

I saw like 5 minutes of it I think of part three last week. from the 5 minutes I saw it was pretty good and not sure how it plays out through the whole thing. It was just images and interviews with 2 white families I saw and it didn't seem to have a slant. That is just a 2% sampling of the film though.

This ain't rocket science. Most people see thru that bullshit. I can't watch it without laughing, it's insult my intelligence so badly, it's actually hilarious!!

                        Exactly Tets..that's my point!!

If there wasn't "social ills" both their "cause" and them would be obsolete!

Honestly I saw about half of this as I laid sick in bed. Some bias indeed but overall fairly balanced and I learned so much. Very anti-bush but honestly Bush didn't handle this as well as he could have (oh and they skewer Rice big time). Some stupid things said were how the soilders weren't compasionate enough. Problem was everyone needed help it wasn't the soilders fault that local state and national goverment had no systems setup for this. I mean Spike doesn't pain the soilders in a bad light in fact they are praised for being the only thing that helped the situation. It isn't a race problem it is a class problem.
