  • Recommend me some George Lynch and Michael Schenker

I know the basic stuff like Mr. Scary and a couple other songs but I don't know much about Lynch, what should I pickup ? same for Schenker

For Shenker, get UFO, "Strangers in the Night" Double live LP. Side 3, "Rock Bottom", it's the bollocks!!

(Yeah yeah, I know, finding side 3 of a cd will be interesting but I'm an old fart and I'm still dealing in old money and listening to vinyl, deal with it!)
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

    I nearly broke her back

I'm partial to Mikes first two solo discs a lot and strangers in the night..I bought those new at the time..those are true classics..

For Lynch I like all the early Dokken up until he bailed the first time and both Lynch Mob releases
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
      Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

        UFO - Lights Out
        UFO - No Heavy Petting
        UFO - Obsession
        MSG - s/t
        MSG - Assault Attack

        GEORGE LYNCH
        Dokken - Tooth & Nail
Dokken - Under Lock & Key
Dokken - Back for the Attack
        Lynch Mob - Wicked Sensation

+1000 on Strangers in the Night and the first MSG with Gary Barden on vocals. Its Schenker at his best. That Strangers disk will leave you in awe... apparently, nothing was over dubbed (though Shoot, Shoot does sound like a different solo was spliced in there). Also if you can find it, get the MSG live '81 DVD too. Great live performance.

GL - Back for the Attack and Both Lynch Mob records. Listen to all the tracks on Wicked Sensation...there's some killer 'sleeper' licks in almost every track IMO, same for BFTA...

Dude: I have a lot of both. I am an avid Schenker Fan.

For Lynch - Under Lock and Key (if you just had one choice - a Dokken CD)

For Schenker - his best work is a little known CD by the name of Adventures of the Imagination. A relatively new release that came out in 2000.

Schenker also has a 2 CD Best of that is good but his best is the above.
              PLAY TILL U DIE !!!

Schenker with the Scorps outside of the first album - From the Lovedrive album: Another Piece of Meat, Loving you Sunday Morning, Coast to Coast, Always somewhere has some really hendrix flavored rhythm things going on that are tasteful.

Schenker uses slide rather tastefully..not to much as phrasing but more as effect.. much like vibrato accents a note.

This is classic Marshall JMP being pushed at high vol with a V at its best IMO.

Yeah, I forgot about the Scorpions stuff he did - some of my favourite all-time tracks there!!
I also really liked the UFO LP "Walk on Water" from a couple of years ago. (Jeeeez, just checked, it's more like 10 years ago. I must be getting old!!!!!) I saw him with UFO on that tour and they blew me away - the classic line-up. He's a real strange guy ("Mad Metal Mickey" as I believe he was dubbed) but he can play the shit out of that V. His playing posture makes my back hurt just looking at him, surely that can't be good for you? LOL
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

Dokken: Tooth and Nail and Back for the Attack. Lynch's best work IMO. Tooth had more radio friendly songs on it, very tasty guitar work. BFTA was more intense guitar, served up by the truckload.

Strangers In The Night is the hands down essential album, but don't overlook Force It. No Heavy Petting is also a killer studio album. His first two solo albums after leaving UFO are also "need to own" CDs. Hell, buy everything!
