Pictures like that drive some people nuts, but I agree that part of gun safety is familiarization. Take the mystery out of guns and kids will be less inclined to mess with them when good ole dad isn't around. Nice hardware, by the way - is that an H&K?

      Very Nice man..!!

I have to take my kid to the stonewall range..let him shoot a 44 mag..I'll load 'em light..

if he can handle a light load..we'll do a factory load..

My dad took me when I was 13..I fell instantly in love!!

He taught me how to shoot..I learned from the best!!

I agree. Train them correctly when they are young and they will respect guns, but on the other hand...kids will be kids...so keep 'em locked up!
I taught my son proper gun safety when he was young, I did not know how much really registered with him until the other day. He was carrying his unloaded Tippmann paintball marker and he had his trigger finger outside the trigger gaurd pointed the same direction as the barrel. I guess he did listen.
In fact the other day he jumped on me when I handed him my M-4 type to load and the safety was not on (you can't put the safety on when it is unloaded but you get the idea).
No honey, I have always had this Jackson....

          Yessir, that would be a H & K 53 chambered in 5.56mm.

"Mini-me" gets a real kick out of putting lead downrange!!!!!

I agree that being educated around firearms is important. I taught my younger cousin when he was 11 or 12.. figured he'd probably end up seeing one at school or party and wanted him to at least be able to safely unload it or secure it if needed (yeah, New haven schools back then didn't have metal detectors or cops as security)... anyway - he was a great shot, always enjoyed it.
He was good about keeping his finger outside the trigger until ready to fire, always listened to the range master and secured the gun and rendered it safe before we would head downrange. Fast forward 10 yrs...
He currently is pre-med at Rutgers, working in his masters in genetics and abnormal psychology and graduated with a 4.0 (or better??) from undergrad.
Funny how many people are freaked out about guns... laws just make it harder for law abiding citizens to get guns.. criminals will alsways have them, so what good would taking them away do?

Taking guns away will do no good for good people. Not only criminals will have the upper hand, but so will the foreign enemy.

I was watching the news the other day and this asshole attacked someone with a brick. There's daily stabbings, beatings, assaults with bats, sticks, bricks, cars and various tools. Somehow guns are the only dangerous weapon. Ever see a gun shot wound? Ever see someone slashed up with a knife? I've seen both. Neither are nice of course, but someone being stabbed and slashed to death is far more brutal and painful... Anyone can freely by a machete right off the shelf at Wal-Mart for $5!

Guns aren't just for killing. A lot of people just simply enjoy shooting targets and competing, just like some people like bow and arrow shooting, or throwing darts.

This bit is kind of in response to someone popping off in the closed thread...

I have friends all over the world and the first thing they've all done, especially in the UK and Australia, is get on their soapbox to tell me how fucked America is. I don't know why it seems these folks can't wait to tell an American how much they hate America and our way of doing things... And they've never been here!

I find it utterly amazing at how much knowledge these people have of the US just by watching American sitcoms and TV dramas. It would surprise you at how many will actually tell me how things are over here. I had one guy in Sweden tell me about Swedish BBQ's, "but Americans don't cook out much unless they have a lot family over"... Stunned by that statement I asked him where he got that information... He said he just assumed so because every American TV commercial he's seen showing American BBQ's there's always lots of people.... Uhhhggg!!! TV is not real. You cannot understand America from Seinfeld, ER or especially stupid shit like Jerry Springer, Rikki Lake or Oprah!! TV shows greatly exaggerate real life.

I had one guy a few years ago tell me Americans like to use big unnecessary words. I can't remember the word he gave as an example, but asked how he gathered that info... From watching ER!

I'll say the same thing here I've said to my buds overseas. I couldn't give a fuck less about your thoughts or opinions about this country anymore than you care about my opinions of yours. And frankly you can piss right off where our culture, rights, freedoms and constitution is concerned.
