  • Just got my first paid acting gig

A multi-day shoot last week at Community Hospital of Long Beach http://www.chlb.org/
for an industrial training video series. Referred by some friends at Concept Media, a co. that markets medical DVDs to schools & hospitals. They closed off one wing of the campus, which is fairly old. If we had been shooting at night it would've been creepy, like the TV miniseries Kingdom Hospital The shooting crew was the same crew that works for NBC's Dateline TV show, so there may be a parallel story run in the future there, most likely on some aspect of malpractice.

I had 3 lines (upped to 5 on day of shooting) in the coveted role of NURSE #4 !

(Nurse 3 is the "villain" of the piece; he was played by a local theater actor and his tired character forgets to tell me important aspects of the elderly patient chart.)

Actually now that I think about it, one of the lines the director added (on the spur of the moment) also seems to implicate my character! Damn, I should have improvised it to "Huh, I wasn't told she was incontinent!"

Scrubs, name tag, and stethoscope were provided (my scrub size: 4X! )
I was told to have my hair "fixed" heh heh (I ended up buying a huge tub of gel to control its recent unruliness).

Snacks & drinks were provided; we had to change into our costumes in unused hospital rooms. I got to take a 1 hour nap in one while waiting for my scenes.

All in all, it was a mixture of boredom & fun, and I ended up on set for only 4 1/2 hours on Wednesday (got paid for 5) and the check was pretty good!

On the Malpractice 403 DVD available through Concept Media, silly!
But you have to be a nursing college, and I think the DVDs are expensive.

Wonder what the character's nametag said, Spelcjek? :ROTF:

Good job on the gig, Ron - wish I could get something good like that, but not much opportunity here in West Tennessee, 'cept porn, and that's no fun

                      Very cool Ron !!

I have a buddy that did a couple episodes of Hunter and then was on a couple episodes of Unsolved Mysteries. I remember seeing one of the old Hunters and tripping out seeing my buddy get chased by The Fred...

Actually, that reminds me that I blew one of the scenes pretty badly!

I had to suddenly realize the patient's info wasn't in her "file" and then stand up and rush off stage left. The prop file was this really heavy binder...when I quickly looked through a page on it, said my line, slammed it closed, then suddenly turned to my right to put the binder back in a cubbyhole...I couldn't get the damned prop in there, and struggled for a second, totally blowing the scene :ROTF:

The directors, producer and I think the soundman and the actress who was playing the daughter all busted up laughing, and so did I...then I asked "That's going on the blooper reel, right?"

So, maybe that'll be on youtube sometime.

I also blew the shot right after that...because I just sat there, instead of standing up and rushing out of frame to go help the "patient"... uh duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

                          my ultimate fantasy came true:

                          Ron in a Nurse's outfit!
