  • Do you use the Hardcase?

I've got hardcases for my Sl-3 and Sl2 and I think I'll be using the hardcases to carry them around. When I just had the SL3 I used to take it round with me in a gig bag to gigs, practices and on buses. It didn't offer much protection but I could wear it on my back. Now since I'll be using the 2 more often than not I might take both in their cases.
Do you use the Hardcases or gigbags to take your axes around the place?

Depends on the guitar and how much you care about what condition it stays in. I carry them around in hard cases and pretty much keep them stored in them most of the time.
If you're flammable and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit. Unless you are a table.

+1. The only time I use a gig bag, is when I take a guitar on an airplane.

my case with all of the things i keep in it make it crazy heavy around campus.

so i bought some gig bags and now i just throw it on my shoulder when i need easy manuverability.

hard cases i take when i go on the road for a weekend gig or something. easy to throw in the back of a van or SUV, and i don't worry if it gets banged a little against something else!

I've never owned a gig bag. Hard cases are the way for me. Anything can happen so I say better safe than sporry.

One time I had a Peavey Axcellerator 5 bass in its hard case. I brought it to the back of my truck to put it in but the camper was locked. I went back in to get the keys then remembered to feed the dog. Fed the dog, locked the house, got back in the truck, backed up then BUMP!. Ran right over it. Threw it in the back, went to the gig, opened the case to find it was as good as new. Still in tune even.

Moral of the story, they may be a little bulky and heavy, but a case is safer.

6 guitars, in hard cases, in a flight case, safe as houses! (A teensy weensy bit on the large and heavy size for shifting around on your own!)

I have a sort of hard/soft case, which is somewhere in between a hsc and a gig bag - it's a great weight, has a nice big strap so you can shoulder it, and has survived the attentions of transatlantic baggage handlers! You can stand on it quite happily, not like the Jackson hsc I had that pinged the hinges when some pie-eating bastard stood on it.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

            I nearly broke her back

To me, gig bags are the lazy man's way of feeling a little security without justification. It offers little to no protection whatsoever. If it falls over, there will be damage. It may offer minimal protection to the finish, but that's about it. If you like your guitars, use the case. You won't be sorry.

I got fed up with lugging hardcases around 4 times a week to rehearsal (going by train and having to walk about 15 minutes).
Nowadays I always use my Rockbag... I have one for V shapes and one for strat shapes. Guitars are stored in the hardcases at home, but when I take them out I use the gigbags.
Except for gigs (where I take several guitars anyways).
