true. Only 2 other recorded fatalities in Australian history. Steve was just extraordinarily unlucky to cop the blow to his heart.

The guy was a mug lair, but his passion & work for the environment was inspiring. He'll be sorely missed.
      Hail yesterday

I liked Steve. I always got a kick out of his shows. A great shame, and very sad especially for his family.

I will miss Steve Irwin, we all love him and my kids and I have enjoyed watching his shows, we've learned a lot from him.
His energy and excitement is so contagious!
One crazy kook, but way cool.

          Rock On, Crocodile Hunter!
This really sucks, and the article I read from the Herald Sun of Australia said that his wife was on trek in Tasmania and as of print date hadn't even been reached with the news! They have 2 children btw.

Rest in peace, Steve Irwin, you were one of a kind!

I'm bummed. One of those things you can't explain why. He's been so close to danger all of his life and his work was important. All the best to his family. He will truly be missed.

So true. At least he died doing what he loved. We should all be so lucky. Still, very sad news though. We watched his shows all the time too.

It's just a damn shame. Steve (although a little off his rocker) was a hell of a human being. Always gave of himself to save ANY species of our great planet. I remember seeing video of him helping animals and people alike after numerous natural disasters. That had to be one enormous Stingray to be able to pierce thru to his heart.

I spent many an hour captivated by what this man had to share and I will truely miss him. He was one of a kind for sure.

                            RIP Steve Irwin.

Ah this really sucks. That guy was a hero of mine also. I've studied with 2 herpetologist and love wildlife and always enjoyed his program on TV. RIP brother...
