They are playing alot of interviews with him, addressing the dangers of his profession . Alot of people were in a uproar about that incident with his child. He also addressed that issue, and how his dad was his hero and nutured him into the biz..

His daughter was with him when he was shooting for some kid show..fortunately she wasn't with him when it happened. At least she doesn't have that memory..sad the same, very cute 8 yeard old daughter.

They raced for 30 minutes attempting to rescue him, he didn't make it..

They reported he lost consciencness as soon as he was attacked and never came to.

A entire Larry King interview will air tonight ..

You realize that if the croc had got him while they were filming that, it would've gotten the baby too? WTF is that? He was facing the croc side-on, with the baby on the opposite side from the croc and the food facing the croc. Granted I wouldn't do that, but that's how he was raised so to him it was normal and safe, since he grew to adulthood.

Think about what you wish for, you wished death on the baby dumbass!

It was a bit Michael Jacksonish as it came after that whole thing I believe..and you know how the media loves to exploit controversy but you know .. after seeing the clip several times, the child wasn't bawling or scared, and after seeing interviews with him.. given his personality..he would have protected that child with everything including giving his life should it have ever even come to that... well... the guy never lost any of his own limbs or digits to croc as far as I know.
Pretty safe arms for a child to be in.

Tragic stuff here... Ironic in a way being killed by an animal that isn't considered anywhere near as deadly as most of what he normally dealt with...

I used to watch him a lot, he was quite an interesting character. It just eventually got old for me and after seeing the movie where they had "stand in" lizards waiting in an air conditioned truck, it became obvious it was of course "just TV" and pretty controlled for the most part. But really, that shows their care and compassion for the animals they were trying to get filmed.

He was truly a special man and my utmost respect goes out to that dude. Sad he had to escalate his exploits so much to keep people's interests to the point where it would ultimately cost him his life. It was merely a matter of time before something tragic happened. I do believe he died doing what he loved, and that is a good way to go if you have to go.

My heart goes out to his family and friends. I assuredly feel quite a sense of loss at his his demise. He certainly seemed to be one of the invincible ones. Much sadness.

                      Blessed be, Steve.

MEX3 you are a dick, Steve made nature popular, do you know how fucking important it is these days when all the motherfuckers are killing animals, destroying the rain forests and so on. Steve actually made some people think.

I loved his show...leaned a lot of important things. I remember watching an episode where he was nearly in tears because people were riding 4 wheelers on a beach that was a breeding ground for leatherback turtles, and the law there forbid anyone from touching the baby turtles, even to save them.

Interesting note on Steve: His parents gave up thier day jobs when he was 8 to start a small reptile conservation area. Over the years they bought small tracts of land to expand it, and by the time Steve tok it over when they retired in 1991, it had become the Austrailian Zoo! He lived right there on the property, and used much of his TV income buying more tracts of land for animal refuge land. He brought a HUGE amount of awareness to animal conservation, and for that he should be celebrated.

RIP Steve, I'll miss ya Mate.

I just heard about this yesterday. I enjoyed watching his show, he was a crazy bastard but that's what made it so interesting to watch. The episode with the deadliest snakes sticks out in my mind also. He will be missed.

                            RIP Steve!

A couple of things. Steve Irwin was one of the finest advocates for animal preservation there ever was. His shows were "Wild Kingdom" (Remember?) on steroids. The risks he took were calculated and done so with a great deal of knowledge. His death was a tragic accident. Not unlike a mountain climber who falls or a chute that doesn't open. Probably, the best comparison is a matador that gets gored. These guys take risks by definition. If Steve were killed by a truck crossing the street, that would be really tragic. As for MEX3, I think he was being a little too "cute" with his comment. But, I strongly disagree with you guys lynching him.

                                I dub thee, Sir Dickhole!

I always thought that Steve was a little over the top with the whole kid incident, but after watching an interview with him discussing it I understand better why he did it. That's the way he was raised. His dad did the same things with him as a kid, which is what made him the man he became... And in my opinion he was a good man and definitely doesn't deserve to be disrespected in his passing.

He wasn't some blood sucking politician raping people out of their money or some drug addict or criminal. He was a conservationist who got the opportunity to share his passion with the world. He loved people, wildlife and the environment. Sounds like a pretty decent guy to me.

If I could have met him in person I would have thanked him and it pretty much sickens me to read stupid, hateful comments about a guy who died doing what he loved.
