  • Broke My Leg on my Harley UGH!!!!

I dug the left floor board into the asphalt and high sided off the right side of my Harley heritage.. as I was braking I did the dumb move of putting my foot out to save the paint.. (well I saved the paint ) My right leg broke just below the knee - 6.5 hours of surgery with 2 orthopedic surgeons and an assistant - Damn amazing what they can do with our bodies-- I did this on the 16 August -I was home for 10 days while they scheduled surgery- Surgery was August 26th - no cast just a brace- an 8" cut on the inside of my leg and a 5" on the outside of my leg. I can already bend it to 60 degrees. Back to work Sept 8. -- No weight on my leg (or bike riding) until November 24 UGH!!.
LESSON (which I knew ??)-- ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FEET ON YOUR ROAD BIKE!! I would have been able to ride away if I just kept on the brakes D'OH
Damn split of the moment decisions - yeah- like my leg will stop a 700 pound Harley DUH!!!
I'm lucky and doing well - a bit of pain though

    Cheers All

P.S. 1/2 mile from work on a turn I make every day - just got sloppy (stupid me)

Well, at least, you didn't blow out your ankle like I did playing golf. Get well and pay attention to the Docs on your rehab. I have my share of heavy metal in my leg, but your's is awesome.
I am a true ass set to this board.

That's a big rule we should abide by Hoss but the reality of it is that it is just a natural reaction and not a thought process ... shit happens .. Hope ya mend quickly and sorry to hear of the bad news ..

                        Good Lord that looks painful.
Any of that hardware coming off or are you with it for life?
                        Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Thanks ALL -- I really appreasate it..
Titianimum is with me for life and all the pins and screws too D'Oh
                          - Like Kevin said - Big rule and the first you learn -- Now I can back it up - keep your feet on the bike - very simple...
I take pills for pai every 6 hours now - but it was 2 pills every 4 hours - so getting better.
The doctor said they might have to tighten screws after a month or two OUCH!! I shadered the one side and tore the tendon off (they were able to reattach the tendon with a piece of bone and a screw). Yes I was lucky and I know it - my chaps kept the bone in my leg - otherwise it might have went threw the skin....
Ride safe and play guitars... Cheers
