Wow, that is a great story about those people's last phone calls. Very, very sad indeed.
I had to fly this morning for an out of town work meeting. I don't really like to fly anway, so I wasn't real happy with my management for scheduling the meeting on 9/11.

Don't forget guys, this cowardly attack happened on U.S soil, but affected millions of people across the globe too. Many of the people who lost their lives were from other countries too. A very sad day for everyone.

"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I can never forget what happened. I'm reminded of it just about everyday...
I work in dowtown Dallas, we have a smaller airport, Love Field in close proximity to the city and its sky scrapers. There is only one thing that comes to mind when I see a low flying jet against a clear blue beatiful sky heading for tall buildings of Downtown Dallas
9/11 really had an affect on me. Although I had no family or friends involved it felt like it to me. My wife would wake me up just about every night from night terrors for a long time (months) afterwards. I don't remember any of dreams but my wife would say sometimes I was just sobbing uncontrollably in my sleep, other times yelling some type of instructions to people and other times just violently shaking in fear and screaming no, no, no....I wish I knew what I was dreaming about
What happened on 9-11-2001 should not be forgotten and we must do whatever it takes to prevent it from happening againshawnlutz.com

Indeed .. it is terrible that as many who tried to escape were not able to get out.. it is even more horrific when you think people were leaving the other building before it was hit and they were told to go back to their offices because it was safe.. and that building was the first to fall. Think of the time frame between the first attack and the second, out of the loop..you first wonder...was it an accident or a terrorist attack? But the FAA knew already there were other possible hijacked planes up...its easy to say in hindsight the first thing that should have went up would be the Air Force around that area. It is even more sad to think.. you'd have to shoot down an airliner full of innocent people just to save the people in the other building. Its almost inconcivable to think to do such a thing..and now.. its a possibility every time you get on a plane.
When I saw the first trade center building hit.. I wondered.. will it stay/hold up until they get this fire under control? How can they get firefighters up that high? but it looked like they would eventually hold up.. one was still standing over an hour an 20 minutes I believe..then the 2nd plane hit.. and all I was thinking was we're at war with someone.. I have no idea who just yet.. and when the first building went down.. oh man.. this was just terrible... definitely going to war with somebody now.
To those who were there and were not able to escape and to those who gave their lives to try to save them..to all those in that are.. they were those whose lives were impacted the most..
It was very surreal watching that unfold live on TV.. I just kept thinking of all the things in life that could now be effected and altered thru the day and weeks to come.. the economy especially was going to take a huge hit.
No planes in the air for weeks...a huge slice of modern transport was just shut down or no stock trading for a week.
Outside of the loss of life and those who tragicially died, which is no trivial matter and should be honored and remembered... the ramifications upon the rest of us still here were huge across the board.
No disrespect to anyone who was there or in the area.. I just think.. I wish they did evacuate that second tower when the chance was there.Last edited by charvelguy; 09-11-2006, 12:45 PM.

All I can remember is speed dialing on three phones from my office for 3 days , only to get three phone calls through to my family, and ultimately losing 3 friends, 2 of them close, and actually getting extremely lucky that I did not lose 40. All my friends and family actually, became either stockbrokers, firemen, or cops. I'll never know what it was like, no matter what descriptions are given, but i've heard many descriptions from friends who were either in the building, or across the way doing estimates on rooftops of 120 broadway, or whose fiance's lived in a two block radius of the towers as they ran towards the disaster while the crowd is running the opposite way towards you, slowing you up as you try to get to her apartment
to make sure she's out and safe. My best friend in the world, Josh, said walking home over the 59th st. bridge was one of the eeriest things he's ever done, as people always drive over it, not walk. And the lousy feeling still remains in me because I wasn't there to help anyone or comfort people that I am related to or grew up with. And there was a lot of them, luckily somehow , someway, not lost, as it could have been even worse for all of us than it already is. And it makes my skin crawl to even think about it.Not helping the situation since 1965!

charvelguy, one thing you have to know is that the people who worked at the WTC towers more or less knew this was coming. My brother who worked there often talked about it, so did all his coworkers, because of what happened in '93. It's the first thing my Mom said to me after we made contact on 9/11--after we found out my brother was out of there--because she--unlike the people who actually worked there--reminded herself of the 93 bombing practically every week. I think that had a hand in people returning to work that day.
There was a lot of cognitive dissonance involved.

this day mostly reminds me that WE HAVE NOT DONE NEARLY ENOUGH TO KILL THE ISLAMOFASCISTS WHO COMMITTED THIS ATTACK AND THE ISLAMOFASCISTS WHO CHEERED THE ATTACK AND THE ISLAMOFASCISTS WHO CONTINUE TO PLOT MORE OF THESE KINDS OF ATTACKS.
it also reminds me we have a President who talks tough on the "war on terror" but lets our southern border hang wide open like a huge invitation.the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

Take that talk over to another thread. Let's keep this one about remembering the fallen.
Let's not deface the rembrance of 9-11 here please.Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~
