I bought some Sony powered monitors at a local store that had them discounted for around $200 for the pair....they are 50 watt with 8" woofers and a 1.5" tweeters in them...I have them hooked into my Sony 4-track digital machine and also my POD for quiet practice and they are awesome....more than loud enough for mixing/monitoring or practicing.

I've got some yamaha msp5's for a small college set up and I can't fault them. there are some good deals out there.

i use the samson reveal 65a's and am very pleased with them. they can be tuned to the room by using a variable response pattern on the back of each speaker. i have been getting very accurate and neutral mixes using these monitors.GEAR:
some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!
some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!
and finally....
i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!
