Amen brother Tim !!! I have a couple of projects ended by me over the last year for the same reason.

I just want to play some music and have fun !! There is a definte DNA link between f**ktard and musician.

Some of the best band I have ever played in had the least amount of pratice time. Band practice seems to be root of all band evil

Over the years, I've come to expect that kind of crap. I'm in a band now that is pretty much 100% reliable except the singer who works shift work and can't always make it. It sucks, but we live with it. Generally though, everyone makes the effort to practice, and learn the songs, everyone is gainfully employed too. Our previous drummer and bass player were coke heads who would just disappear for days on end. We had a call from the drummer's father once (keep in mind, this guy is in his thirties), asking if we had seen him. He showed up a week later. The bass player managed to get himself put in the hospital one time while out on a bender. He had almost bled to death, and ended up with a broken eyesocket, and stitches all over his face. Not to be discouraged, he went out the following week, and managed to get into it again. This time ripping out half the stitches in his face, and misaligning the metal plate they put in his face to repair his broken eye socket.

Needless to say, those two will not be missed.
        Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

When i had my band back in the 80's We did have an issue with the bass player flakin out and comin with excuses like my car broke, i gotta work, i forgot what day it was. Etc.. the usual bs. So we got a new bassplayer and it was great. We all showed up 2 times a week and had pretty productive pracitces for the most part. The the lead guitar player (mister ego) decides he wants to leave the band and and go with another one that just happens to have a recording studio in the basemment. LOL Well that didnt last long he was kicked out of that band for because of his ego. He was and probably still is a great guitarist. But his ego got the best of him. Which is sad cus it was a christain rock band. But oh well. Now im still trying to find that right situation. Im in a rutt and need motivation. dammit.

Gil, I've been trying to learn that for years. When "flakin", did he use the third finger on the fifth fret, or the fifth finger on the third fret? I appreciate your help.

Well we had practice last night. The other guitarist didn't come. It was generally agreed that he needn't show up anymore anyhow so it was basically in my hands to tell him he's out today.

This morning I missed a call from him and he left a message from where he basically said he wanted to quit. So I called him up and said "man was I relieved to get your message this morning"

He was surprised when I said he was going to be getting kicked out. And then he wanted to basically argue about it. What is the point of arguing when you want out and they want you out? Sigh.

After practice last night, our drummer said he *really* doesn't want to play with our keyboard player anymore. I don't really want to either. I've already had the unpleasant job of giving two folks the boot - looks like I'm on to #3.

What does any of this bullshit have to do with me turning my guitar up and going meedley, meedley, meedley, chugga, chugga, chug?

This is just a pain in the ass.

Tim that sucks. I feel for ya.

I guess I have just been plain lucky. I never played in a band up to being 41, just bedroom jamming with records and some jams infrequently with friends. earlier this year I got the bug to join a band, realized I was good enough to do it, and within 2 months, and after only one other audition for a situation that I knew wouldn't work due to distance, I found an existing band that needed a lead player, and I was able to fit right in. the only probs we've had was soon after I joined, they booted their recently added bass player, and a guy I had played with before came over and auditioned and he's now our bassist.

we practice weekly and no one misses. we all are 30's plus, with good jobs and good transpo. we all get along really well, and we are pretty damn good. plus they have a killer lockout studio with tons of equipment.

I must just be fortunate for this to all have worked out so well.
maybe it's karma for all those years I should have been in a band but either was involved with other stuff or was still not confident enough in my abilities to ever take that plunge.

if that's my karma now, I'll take it.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

or in Tim's situation it was "I'm gonna quit... wait, you were gonna kick me out? What the fuck?"

Someone posted a long time ago on the board, that they would rather play with guys who are not of 'superstar' quality, but have a great personality, then to play with a superstar who's a dick!

Those guys who are not quite up there yet, can get there with practice, but a dick is always a dick! Makes for stress and no fun.

My current band is quite low on the talent scale, but everybody shows up for 1/week practice rather reliably, and if they don't, it's almost always with plenty of notice. Unfortunately it appears that no amount of practice is going to make this band capable of handling any kind of serious gig.... so yeah, bands suck.
