Also, she noticed the way her friend and I were getting along and would like nothing better than to see the 2 of us get together if that would make us happy.
Before you ask, I did not bring up her friend, she did.

We're still great friends and talk to each other very openly about everything, but our lives are going in different directions.

It's going to take some time for me to accept the changes.
It's not painful as I didn't lose a great friend, but I have to adjust.
Can I ask how old you are? Since we know she's at least 50 - I'm just curious about how much of an age difference there is.

I'm glad that things are working out - glad you were up front and talked to her, too. If I were you, I might wait and let things chill a little bit before I jumped into another relationship.

...of course, I'm telling this to a guy who's gone a little while without any lovin'. My words may well be falling on some pretty deaf ears.

    Good luck, man!

Then you are in the clear. 34 is today's 24 as far as relationships and dating is concerned! Just take a short break to sort everything out and hit the scene in a couple of weeks. (Not to sound harsh or anything, but that's what I'd do).
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Less weird than I expected. I figured you'd be in your early 20's - that would be weird.

Why? Granted I haven't been in a relationship with any women around her 50's, I have been with a couple in their upper 30's. Thank god for mandatory professional seminars (aka sending the milfs back to college! ).

Sounds like she's a very cool woman. I guess you were lucky to have had the good years with her, and I'm glad you can remain friends with her. You can't really ask for a more pleasant ending to a longterm relationship.

I sort of feel badly for her, this is probably bitter for her even though she is being wise and caring. Not that she's bitter against you or her friend, quite the opposite. It's just that 50th birthday probably made her reflect that you want those things, marriage and children, that she can't give you.

Best of luck, things will only get better and you will retain that friendship that you cherish!

                        I was speaking in terms of a relationship. If you're 25 when she's 50, she's going to be 65 when you're 40.

Besides, kids at that age are pretty much out of the question for her.

Also, I don't know any 25-year-old who has developed an attitude stoic enough to deal with a menopausal woman. I've seen it - it's not pretty.

I had a relationship with a woman twelve years my senior for about 5 years... sometimes it works.. sometimes age becomes an issue. Demi Moore, Clint Eastwood, Paul McCartney.. usually its the man who is older snagging younger.

To be honest I have never been with a woman older than me. Which is odd because I rather get along very well with older women... wait no one but she was only 2 months older.
