  • Whats the biggest/most important gig you've played?

My band has a pretty big show coming up and I was wondering what is the biggest, most important, or most memorable show you have ever played and why?

My band has supported/been on festival bills with some international acts - most significantly Megadeth for me - but my biggest gig was probably one a few years back, co headlining with a fairly popular national Turkish act and a few supports. About 2000 people showed up, and we played one before last. We played a good set, and I saw that most of the audience left after we finished. That was a nice ego boost, and made me realise that we could pull a fairly large crowd!
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

The biggerst show I played was in Sandusky Ohio..

There was about 1500+ people there..

A beatles tribute called 1964 opened for us..I'm not big on the beatles , but they were spot on incredible!!!

Then we did 2 and a half hours of DLR era VH..in full battle gear..

It went over very well, they fed us, we drank for free, put us up in a hotel, and paid us very well..I think we got two grand for that gig..so that was 500 bucks each..

      not too shabby!

I played lots of big shows over the years (back in the day) at places like Lamours, CBGB, Studio 1, Birch Hill, Stone Pony and have openned for nationals such as Mr Big, LA Guns, Kix, Widowmaker...etc But for me personally the Biggest/most important gig was just last month when we played at Ride For Dime down in Arlington TX. Great cause in the name of one of my biggest influences and getting to be like family with all his closest lifelong friends.
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

I don't know if this qualifies, but I played guitar with Dewey Bunnell and the rest of America for a sound check when I was in college. I was a volunteer for the stage crew at my University. This was in 1976 when America was in their "heyday" and I had played every song they wrote while in high school. Horse with No Name, Ventura Highway, Sister Golden Hair, etc. They said if they ever needed an another guitar player, they would call me. They never did call But, damn it was really neat!

Cool! They were (and still are) one of my favorite bands. Great music for coffee house's. I was messing around on the stage with cables and one of the audio engineers told me to pick up one of the acoustics to check sound levels before America was to do a sound check. I played the opening riffs with the hammer-ons to "Ventura Highway" and Dewey came up and told me to keep playing. It was amazing. They said "you sure know our songs"! I told them I had all their albums and learned every song for one of my bands that did a lot of acoustic stuff.

I have never played out in a live setting in my 23+ years of playing guitar. But, I do play a song for my daughters every night as I put them to bed. That is my most meaningful gig.

I'd have to say my first club gig with my own band in Detroit...we started in a club called Blondies on sort of amature Monday or Tuesday night and killed....got called back to open up for another band a few days later. A week later we were headlining there and able to break into the club circuits
