  • Southern Rock

I know this is more of a metal group here, but I got hit by the Southern Rock bug,.............and I'm a Yankee. I liked it a lot back in the 70's, but as passing fad kind of thing.

The last couple of months I haven't picked up the guitar (disinterested), but I watched this group play at a gig and blew me away, especially with the 3 guitar attack. If its done right, man is it awesome!

Now my guitars are out of the closet again, I loaded up on Skynyrd, Allman Bros, .38 Special, Outlaws cds. First song up, 'I Know A Little' by Skynyrd. I woud pick a 220 bpm song to start with.

    Any Southern rock fans?

I like a lot of Southern Rock, but they beat the crap out of it on the radio.

I am a fan. I saw the Outlaws a few times back in 81-82. Saw Hatchet back then too. Just saw the Outlaws again (what's left of them ) several months ago at BB King's in NYC. They were great. They are playing BB's again in October, I think. I'll probably go again.

I was gonna go to that show, except I realized it would be hard to get there from Las Vegas that day. I'll probably catch them next time around. I like BB Kings, but you gotta be prepared to pay some money. Not for the tickets,...............for the food and beer. I took my wife last year to see Mahogany Rush. $30 tickets, but by the end of the night my food and drink bill was over $200 .

Can we consider Pantera to be Southern Rock?

Man I love Skynyrd, but I was watching their concert on VH1 and its like, what? 2 guys left from the original group in a 7 or 8 piece band? At that point its really just a cover band.

When I first saw they were gonna be there on the 21st, I almost bought tickets right away, but I remembered I was on my way to Las Vegas at that time. Crap!

I'll have to settle for Wayne Newton or Celine Dion at that time

If they, or 38 special, Molly or anyone else comes around, we gotta hook up and go.

Matter of fact, tomorrow night at the Lakewood Blueclaws stadium, it's wingfest, all chicken wings are free throughout the day, My wedding band, Boccigalupe and the Bad Boys are playing, followed by Marshall Tucker Band, Mountain and Cheap Trick.

LOL....no. But from what his friends all tell me, he loved it AND country thus how Rebel Meets Rebel came to be.

Personally, I can take it or leave it when it's on the radio or such, but live? It is great. There's a Southern Rock Tribute band up here called Tuesday's Gone, and all 3 guitarists are smokin. I have a great time at their shows.
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

I really do like the feel that southern rock gives off. Just has really good grooves and the guitar playing usually seems to have tons of feel to it. It's a good change of pace from the guys who play a million notes per minute.
