well, the people that post regularly on this board can be excessively dickheadish, and quite often these said people go into attack mode the second a newbee does something even minor.

sometimes people are offended (and rightfully so) when they are viciously attacked with sarcasm and insults because they misspell a word, or ask a question or don't use the search function.

it often appears that certain members of this board get off on being assholes to new people. it certainly is NOT a friendly environment and having been around here for a while, i see it getting worse.

    but that is MY view.....

I think they have. And if everyone here keeps to their word, this post will kill this thread.

IMHO, JCF is pretty mild compared to some of the other boards I post at. A n00b to ANY forum should know that it is best to tread lightly until integrated

I think that some of the more outspoken regulars could back off just a little bit. Everyone has to start out somewhere, and although the JCF does have rules that should be read, I'm not surprised that a lot of new users ignore them. On 99% of online forums, the "rules" are just the default filler included with the forum software.

It's not like that issue is exclusive to forums either. I did a major server upgrade at work over the weekend that affects 300+ employees, vendors and customers. I spent hours typing up instructions on process changes, file migration and other erlated materials. I sent these instructions out over a week before the upgrade, but on Monday morning, I was bombarded with a bunch of calls and emails from people who hadn't bothered to read ANY of the emails I sent. I make my living doing this stuff, and the users make their living working with the data on the systems I maintain...but somehow following directions wasn't important.

          OMG n0obs.

Bullshit. Noobs are treated like crap for the most part. It's as if they are being initiated into a fraternity. Read this, search that, do this, do that you fucking noobs! When in actuality, the persons riding their ass probably pulled the same boneheaded moves.

actually i was thinking about a few of the noob threads that have just gotten derailed as threads tend to do and they started taking it the wrong way. i don't think they fully realize we are no longer really discussing their topic.

Treated like crap = being told to search before asking the same questions we see 10x every month? Being told to read the rules before posting items for sale in the wrong forum? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Like it or not, any message board is a community that goes by rules, written or not, just like any other community, virtual or not.

You got that right. It is not an unreasonable assumption to think the rules are just boiler plate crap like everywhere else.

I can say I was treated pretty well here when I first started coming around. Thanks to some good advice from a regular member at the time, I was able to get a good feel for the mood of this forum. I did try to take my time and read the rules before posting in each forum however, and I do use the search function quite a bit.

It all depends on the noob, someone like me who has been repeatedly abused for not using the search funciton on other forums will learn to use it. Someone realatively new to the world of web forums won't necessarily know that the rules aren't always just filler, and that everyone is tired of hearing (reading) the post "is the XXX a good trem and can I replace it with an OFR"?

When it comes right down to it, how do you think many noobs end up at a forum? They come here for answers to noobish questions, like, "how does the JB sound in the SL1"? And the answer they get from a forum could be a deciding factor for them to buy Jackson, or to go elsewhere.

                      Later,

Hey, I give everyone the same chance..newbie or otherwise..

yeah, I have noticed a couple new dickholes, and one was bounced immediately for it..their name evades me..which is good.

I wasn't exactly treated with open arms when I first came here..but people got to know me and discovered my awesomeness. Some did right away, ..the smart ones..and some took some time to warm up to me..

It's not really a "newbie" thing IMO..it's a dickhole thing..either you are or your not..

                        Such is life..

Why not have a forum titled: "New to the Board? Start here first." Have all the sticky rules. Maybe a brief intro on how the board works. A lot of noobs just drive into the deep end. I'm just a big softy.:ROTF: :ROTF: :ROTF:
I am a true ass set to this board.
