bah, the post count and/or 45 days don't mean shit. i've seen plenty of people here get porked by members with way more "cred" than that. oh and didn't we have a jcf sponsoring dealer who used to work at jackson and run their web site that dicked people over? just sayin'...

i've bought and sold with and as the noob on a number of forums and never had any more or less problems than with the senior members.

bottom line - you buy/sell on the internet you need to cover your own ass.

That's true Tim, CYA is the bottom line. Your examples are all true, but I would think that as the admins try to decide how to cover THEIR asses, and that of the board, that they have probably seen a bigger pattern than you or I have anecdotally.

There's no doubt that the classifieds were getting spammed by newbies, and if the admins say that they were a greater problem than regulars as far as ripping people off, then again I think their experience as having to deal with it, and track it, supercedes your personal experience or mine.

They chose a method to try and minimize the problem. Another option was to drop the classifieds altogether, which nobody seemes to want.

I don't see the post count and wait period as particularly onerous. It's better than nothing as the real hit and run guys will probably stick with HC.
It's not a substitute for using your discretion but it's something.

there is really no sure way to police them but I give the admins here credit for trying... if thecurrent rules even eliminate a couple ass clowns then is working

if you have a 32' scarab at your lake house, then I guess you must be admitted to the classifieds. If you got those kinda crazy $$$, the admins would be mad to not let you in, right? I had no idea welding was such a lucrative trade.

If by likeminded, you mean people who post any old dreck expressly to flout the rules and gain access to the classifieds, then yea, you'll find a few of them around here. But by and large, the general population try to provide some kind of contribution to the forum in amongst the ass jokes. Try it. You might like it.

The admins NEED to do absolutely nothing. That´s the nice part about running your own board, you make the rules and decide how they´re enforced. Anyone that doesn´t like it is free to leave at any time.

AMEN brother Z....... This has always been one of the best run boards around with good rules and fair enforcement although some would view them harsh at times, but you got to have some examples,,,its not that hard to follow the rules and not act like a total ass...some schmuckery is accepted and even encouraged under the right circumstances, its all about becoming part of a community, Hell, i read the classifieds every day, sometime twice, but they are not why i come here, i like seeing cool looking axes, reading about new tubes i havent tried, learning about the quirks of a piece of gear i might have had my eye on, or even reading of Tim's plee's for people to fuck toejam( ie: schmuckery :ROTF: )

but if someone comes with an agenda of just hitting the classifieds,,and is pretty blatant about it,,,fuck 'em
