I met some of my favorite players..Satch wore my police badge on occassion , haven't seen that in a while..that's all cool and shit..but

I would REALLY like to meet you silly fukers !!

I know some here would love to meet and hang with me..now, THAT would be fun IMO!!
    Count me in on that!

I would like to meet some players who've influenced me, but yeah, the fawning thing I think would be embarrassing for everyone. Like Peart said, "I can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend".

If someone's aloof with you, is he an asshole, or just having a bad day? And you may have been waiting 20 years to meet him, but you're just fan #176,289 to him. I don't expect much, if they can be civil that's cool.

Nicest celeb I ever met was Rick Allen.
Class act all the way. I have yet to meet "my idol" if you want to call it that. I missed the chance to meet Phil Collen when I was backstage talking to Rick. Maybe next time... I here he's really nice and not dick-ish.

I haven't met any really famous guitar heroes yet, but I really don't have to. A friend of mine is an absolutely amazing guitarist. He can sit down with a guitar and an amp, start playing whatever he feels like, nothing planned, and he'll leave me breathless every single time.. Everybody praises his talent, but he's so down to earth, never heard him brag about his skills, though he damn well could have.
The cool thing is he always encourages me to keep playing, no matter how much I think I suck compared to him. And we'll go grab a beer whenever we get the time. If anyone is my idol, it must be him.

By the way, if I had to name one famous guitarist I'd like to meet it would be Jeff Beck.

Back in ’98 or so, I stood in line for several hours to meet Ozzy and the original Black Sabbath..this was when they first got back together, before they played any Ozzfest. They were promoting the Reunion disc and were doing a few in store signing/appearances. This one was at the Tower Records (now Virgin) in Boston. I took off the entire afternoon from work and stood in a several block line….with some interesting folks I might say, ranging from a Berklee music chick rocker who brought her black SG to get signed by Iommi, to a couple dudes (who didn’t know each other), comparing their ink-work they got done doing time.

I didn’t know what to expect of Ozzy, I’ve been to only one Ozzfest at that point, and this was way before his MTV show was on. Well, he was in an “altered state” to say the least. He was out there,.. not paying attention to anybody but the shit he was signing…which he kinda had trouble doing. The other dudes Geezer, Bill, and Iommi were supercool..got to shake their handand they signed the Cd, but that was it. I’d say if I were to do it over again I would pass on this one.

A year or so earlier, I met the Slayer boys (Paul instead of Dave) at another signing. I had a little time to talk shop equipment with Kerry and Jeff, and I was able to take some pics. +1 on this one.

And just a week or 2 ago, at the Gigantour, was able to meet Lamb of God, at one of those planned signings after they played, which was supercool. Their current CD rips, they played a killer set, and to go back say hi, have them sign your cd and shake your hand made for a pretty good night.

Anyway, the above 3 were planned signings, never actually bumped into a band member while in the 7-11.

I use to be kinda into that sort of thing but not much.
As I aged, meeting my influences became clear to me either they will be dead and long gone and lost out. The others ones, are older than me and probably will be in a wheel chairs by the time get around and meeting them. Either way I'm not really into that sort of thing much. If it ever happens and I do, wonderful, if I don't....I don't.

I have met a few big (and some not-so-big) name celebrities, including:

                Actor Stacey Keach (cool guy)
Singer/Songwriter Rupert Holmes (very cool guy)
Al Pitrelli (very cool guy, liked the sweater I was wearing!)
                Angus Clark (also very cool)
Michael Inez & Randy Castillo from Ozzy's band (very cool, and Randy spent a lot of time with a kid in a wheelchair who had a hard time talking, but Randy had a lot of patience with him which I thought was golden.)

                Opportunities I have passed on:
Was backstage for two of Kiss' shows on the 96 reunion tour. Could have met the boys, but passed. I idolized them too much as a kid, and didn't want to risk them being jerks.
Was also backstage for Metallica/Guns-N-Roses monsters of rock and had an invite to the aftershow party, but hookers 'n blow have never really been my thing.

A few artists I have yet to meet but would like to are Petrucci and Myung from DT, and Tommy Shaw.

I used to work for one of the premier home builders in Beverly Hills and most of our work was for celebs, I can't believe I used to have to tell Cheryl Ladd to get some clothes on for christs sake, cuz she was distracting the carpenters to the point i was afraid someone would cut a hand off, LOL. most of them were Okay, the one musician who impressed the hell out of me was brian setzer, he would come over and BS with us all the time and was just plain one of the guys.

I met Dave Mustaine at the time when he was sort of an idol of mine. I say idol, for lack of a better term. I don't really "idolize" anyone, because people are after all, just people, famous or not. Anyway, Dave was kind of a dick (big surprise eh?), and I guess it did sour things in a way. It's not that I liked his music any less, but I guess I realized that writing cool music doesn't necessarily make you cool.

The only band I can think of that I would like to hang out with, is the boys from C.O.C. They seem like the kind of down-to-earth, laid back motherfuckers that I could get along with. I met them briefly once, and that only reinforced my opinion of them.

I'd really enjoy having an evening of partying at some clubs with Paul Gilbert. It's hard to imagine that he could be anything but fun to hang with.

I've met a few sorta big-time dudes lately including Nugent, Kip Winger, Jack Russell, Jeff Labar, etc. Oddly enough the nicest guy turned out to be Lars Ulrich. He has a reputation as a total dick, but was super nice to me and my friends backstage at their show.

Meet your heroes: yes or no?

                          > It all depends on who the person is to me really. The only big name musicians I've ever seen up that close were EVH,on the 1984 tour,in Strings and Things in Memphis. This was at the original location on Union Avenue. The others were Paul Gilbert and Marty Freidman, same place. I've also literally bumped into Andre Agassi at a tennis tournament in Memphis, talked to Rob Van Dam the wrestler in the airport there for over an hour, had Ricky Carmichael come up to me and say hi 2 years after talking to him for 2 minutes at a local race when he was still on 80cc's,and every pool player ranked in the top 10 in the world for the last 10 years. I had a 100 dollar sidebet on a pool match with Tony Stewart at a tournament in Louisville back in January. The only one I really got nervous with was Agassi, all I could do was apologize for running into him coming around a corner. EVH was kinda cool that day anyway, gave me 3 backstage passes to pass out to the other 2 guys I was with,in retrospect I should have used one of those to try and get laid. I tried to play the intro to Scarified after seeing Paul play it during an Ibanez clinic,he came up behind me and jokingly said that he didn't mean for people to try and play that so fast. Most of the ones I would really like to meet now are pro athletes like Tiger Woods,Terry Bradshaw,Ben Roethlisberger, and other important people like Steven Hawking.
Musicans I'd like to meet are Tom Scholz, the guys in DT,and Rush. Tommy D.

                            I've met a few:

Allan Holdsworth: Totally cool, encouraged a pic with him

Steve Howe: Not cool at all, refused to sign my guitar but signed another guy's

Satch: Really cool and regular, signed a strap & took a pic with me

Steve Morse: Cool as hell, pic together no problem, BS too

Tommy Shaw: great guy, pics not a problem

Peter Frampton: DICK !!!! Lucky I didn't fuckin' kill him ... Dissed me at The Beacon ... fucker !!!

Soupy Sales: Yup ... Soupy Sales ... Excellent human !!!

Robben Ford: Good man, pics kinda ok, guitar signings yes

** Most of these people rock, others can be dicks for whatever reason .

I'm 42 and I don't worship anyone, but I'd love to spend a night drinking and jamming with Dave Grohl. he's a musical hero to me. and you know he's a great guy.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives
