It's almost too bad they didn't blow themselves up. I really feel sorry for the common comrade. China is going to come down on them bigtime. That's because China is almost one of us now.
there isn't much we can do alone with a military strike of any kind. China has to respond to this. We can impose sanctions against NK but who knows , that may force them to sell nukes to anyone with the cash in order to eat.
Iran is loving it right now...
this is a majorly fucked up situation w/o question
As if anything we say here is going to change things anyway
yes, just as all the media and political figure heads...I agree..
a voice is a voice no matter if it is one of us or Lil' Kim..Usama, or W..
don't undestimate the power of words..
I could start a shit storm with very little words right here, right now..I've done it many times..and that is exactly how wars start..war of words..then words turn to war.
Anyone here can go out in public and induce panic or incite a riot with a single word!
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.
Bill, you're absolutely right of course. I was just being sarcastic, but if I am sarcastic it's because I don't know anything about politics.. It scares the shit out of me because I don't understand it, so I shy away from these kind of arguments.. I guess it all comes down to having a sense of what's wrong and right though.. It's just that all the corruption, butt-kissing and broken promises has got me losing faith..
"This ain't no Arsenio Hall show, destroy something!"
China is not happy because the S. Koreans & Japanese would have to be totally lacking a survival instinct not to build a deterrent nuclear capability now. The Japanese have been collecting the material required for such an effort for some time and I would guess today was the green light to go ahead and start putting the pieces together. I think it is likely we will see a general acceleration of nuclear weapons proliferation now.
Yep. I give Humanity in it´s current form another 10, maybe 20 years tops.
After all, if Korea has the bomb, then Iran will have it soon, as will Japan. Iran will buy, and Japan will make their own (Ironically in a facility in the vicinity of Hiroshima IIRC).
If Korea, Japan, and China have it, and Iran has it, we have 2 nuclear powered powderkegs. And they´re both sitting on a volcano.

Have fun while it lasts, guys
I sure don't want to see this proliferation, but also I don't think nuclear war necessarily means what we were raised to thin kit'd mean - the US and USSR setting off thousands of nukes that's destroy the planet's ability to support life.
My bet on a regional nuclear war would probably be Korea vs. Japan, or India vs. Pakistan. Maybe it would be confined to a small enough area to not ruin the whole planet. Maybe the live CNN coverage would be enough to make everyone's blood run cold and decide to try and prevent it from overtaking the whole planet, too. I can only hope.
Inevitably theres no good to come from korea having nuclear power.
It makes that whole area a vulnerbility more so now than ever before, which will more than sooner than later affect the rest of the world.
We all new that eventually other nations would have nuclear power, and we all had a hunch that it would definitely change things, and were seeing JUST the beginning of this thing. I'm sorry to say, but before it will get better, the major nations of the world will have to have a nuclear standoff to learn to respect and to live with one another. It will have to get intense and perhaps on the very brink of major devestation(potentially WW3) before man will learn. Just my assesment of it, but hey who am I?
Why? Men in power are very predictable species. Man at some point will have to flex that nuclear muscle to just to see what results it will get.
Whether its respect or for keeping the peace, or just pushing the envolope as a player to see what will happen. Either way, its gonna happen its the inevitble with man.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...
"Anyone who tries to fling crap my way better have a really good crap flinger."
I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.
"Nuclear standoff to learn respect and live with one another"
I dunno how much faith I have in that as a sustainable solution. That only works if the people with the weapons place a meaningful value on their lives and the lives of those around them.
Americans have used that sort of clever reasoning to justify possessing guns of all sorts. Yeah, that's working well here. Nobody shoots anyone here because we've got this semi-automatic weapon standoff that has taught us to learn to respect and live with one another.
I'm just waiting for some North Korean or Iranian politician to come out and say "nukes don't abliterate civilizations, people do".
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.
japan and SK dont need to build atom bombs as their puppet states of america who will use their bombsi dont know why people are even mentioning these countries having an arms race to counter the threat of NK?i mean come on Israel where given nukes.
Looks like you are at least partially right jjw. Japan is forswearing nuclear weapons development still this morning even after the DPRK started talking about launching nuclear missiles. They seem to be assured that the US security guarantee is enough, at least publicly. Amazing. I would think it would be desirable to at least threaten to build them to get China to seriously jerk the DPRK's chain.
Even if your outlandish notion about Israel being 'given nukes' were true, which no educated person I know ever entertained, I'm not clear on the point of mentioning it. Are you suggesting that the US will be asked for and will deliver nuclear weapons to Japan and S. Korea as happend in Europe?

Neither NEEDS to, correct. But then again, neither does North Korea
The Japanese have long assumed the position that their onky reason for not proceeding with their own Nuke program is the lack of major Threats w/ nuclear arms in the region.
That changed yesterday.
I would not be in any way surprised if Japan does exactly what they said they would. And that would be "building nukes as a deterring measure and means of possible retaliation". That they haven´t officially said "we are now building" is good, but I somehow don´t think that the US Security guarantees are really taken that seriously by anyone in the region
China needs to step up as they have and put some pressure on NK for a peaceful resolve....Military involvment should be avoided at all costs here. The problem tho is they called our bluff...no what are we gonna do about it?
I still think the beginning of the end will originate from the middle east somewhere..probably Iran with some help form both Russian and NK.
Maybe the Mayans had it right with their calendar ending in 2012???
