When people can´t or don´t follow clear and concise directions properly, I KNOW there´s going to be problems with the sale in 99% of the cases... Unfortunately "Buyer can´t read directions" is not enough grounds to annull the auction and resulting duties of both parties. I honestly wish it were
Wow. He never asked for a postal money order. You should go back and read the thread again. Somebody else said POSTAL money order, but it was never part of my conversation with him.

The word "postal" was never mentioned, by him or I. In fact, the conversation started with me sending a regular check, and him telling me he'd have to hold it, and would prefer certified funds. I offered to get a money order and overnight it to him. Then he told me that if I sent the money order overnight, he would ship it immediately.

My bank doesn't do "money orders" for 2200.00. And the cashier told me - a cashier's check is better anyway. His bank can call, and verify the check instantly. It's already funded, there should be no hold. She also told me, they can't do that with a money order for that amount, because it's technically a third party, and they're only legal to do that for 1,000.00.

I'm calling the bank when they open, to find out about the check.

Well, I went back and checked ebay. You were dead right - I can't follow directions. It was right there in the payment instructions:

Right, he said personal check, BUT WITH A HOLD. ANYBODY would hold a personal check coming from an Ebay purchase. To think otherwise is plain stupid.

Then you arranged to pay by money order. Regardless if you or your banker think a CC is better, it wasn't what was agreed upon, so you failed to follow the instructions he gave you.

Plenty of people have posted to this thread to explain to you why the guy would be worried about getting scammed. If you end up stopping payment on the CC, then it will look as though YOU were the scammer. At least, that will be the legitimate viewpoint from the seller's perspective.

People are nervous with Ebay transactions, and he could think that you have jacked the Ebay account you're using. For example, if someone jacks your account and gets a guitar shipped, all they have to know is your actual delievery address and the shipper and tracking # and they can divert the package, AFTER it's shipped, to another address.

So someone could have all your info and still get the package diverted, or call the shipper to hold it at the depot and they pick it up there. This is just one reason why the guy has to take care. You need to realize that, suck it up and wait for the funds to clear. Then you'll get your guitar, after he knows he has the cash.

Just so you know, USPS money orders are primarily preferred because you can actually cash them at the post office. Then you deposit what cash you want in your bank account and you know it's safe. That's all I take besides Paypal, and if you sent me anything else I'd just send it back and gig you wityh a NonPaying Bidder report and a negative feedback.

Don't sweat it. There are just way to many scammers and thiefs out there and at that price range you can't be too careful.

Wait wait wait wait wait......he specifically listed this in his auction.....did you read it?????

**PLEASE NOTE - SOME BANK CHECKS AND CASHIERS CHECKS MAY TAKE UP TO 10 BUSINESS DAYS TO CLEAR. NO ITEMS WILL SHIP UNTIL ALL MONEY HAS CLEARED**

Well, I spoke to my bank - it already cleared. I exchanged email with him, and his bank confirmed it. He's shipping it Monday. I guess I was just concerned - he does have a couple of recent negatives that made me really nervous. After checking out online pricing, the deal on the guitar was pretty decent... maybe a little too decent.

So what I learned is that Cashiers Checks are the most easily forged... and are the easiest for a bank to confirm. So most forged cashiers checks don't get passed at banks, they get passed to people for immediate shipment or exchange of goods, as they'll get bounced quickly. So me pushing him to ship it on arrival of the CC was a red-alarm. Must of smelled like CC fraud. I didn't know.

Anyway I'm totally stoked on the guitar... guess I am just GAS'in really hard for it. MUST... CALM... DOWN... MUST... WAIT... FOR... STRATHEAD... CHARVEL...

OK, so the specific word "Postal" wasn´t a part of his statement. That changes absolutely nothing, as he asked for a money order and you sent him a check.

Either way there´s no reason to get defensive if you´re asking for opinions and someone posts theirs.

Yo Zerberus - no problem here. I understand where you're coming from, I just wanted to clarify the point about the USPS MO. No biggie - and it's good to know where people stand on this stuff! I'm happy he DIDN'T scratch the whole deal.

Well, this whole thing has made it crystal clear to me - I usually only buy paypal goods on Ebay, and that's where I am sticking to from now on. I haven't bought something with another payment form on ebay in at least 4 years, but I really wanted THAT guitar.

                      Still waiting...

Also one DISadvantage to PMOs is that not all POs will have that kind of cash laying around. It really sucks when you present the MO after waiting in line and they turn you away...then you have to figure out another PO to go to and repeat the whole thing over again - that is a frustrating hassle.

I've never had that problem either in California or here in Mississippi, but even if that ever happened, you'd at least have the Post Office's confirmation that the money order was legitimate, or not.

My bank will 'hold' *anything* - money orders, cashier's checks, etc... they will only cash them out to you if you have enough balance to cover them in your account. If not, then you wait for them to clear for the amount to be deposited in your account: They told me it takes at least 48 hours for anything.

Before someone tells me to switch banks, I stay with them because of the hours - 8am to 8pm M-F, S 10-1pm. It's Arvest/State bank in Tulsa, owned by the same folks who own WalMart.
